Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear jones,
I hope you are in best spirits and good health. It's been a long time since we met each other. I am excited to tell you about my upcoming visit in your city in this month.
Firstly, I got promotion on my workplace and received an offer of on-job training in your city. The most fascinating thing is that I got extra two day off from work during training session which would allow me to enjoy quality time with you and other friends. Because, it is a business trip. All my accommodation formalities would be completed by my company. They have done booking prior to my arrival in an esteemed hotel named ' The Raddisson' which is not far away from your residence.
During my visit, I love to explore several attractions and enjoy special dishes of this town. I have also called Ritesh and Rajan to join us during these days. It would be definitely our best vocation together after so long.
I would appreciate it if you could arrange the ticket to cinema for all of us and took us to explore beauty of the city.
I am looking forward to hear a prompt response from you as soon as possible.
With love,
Mk

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly explained the purpose of your trip (a promotion and on-job training), asked for recommendations regarding sightseeing and local cuisine, and extended an invitation to your friend. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a friendly and informal register throughout. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, providing enough detail to make the purpose and plans clear. You have fully satisfied the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Because', and 'During my visit' to link your ideas. However, the use of 'Because' at the start of a sentence is slightly informal and creates a minor fragment. Paragraphing is generally appropriate, though the transition between the purpose of the trip and the accommodation details could be smoother. Overall, the message is easy to follow, and the progression of ideas is logical throughout the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'accommodation formalities', 'esteemed hotel', and 'fascinating'. There are some minor collocation errors, such as 'got promotion' (should be 'got a promotion') and 'arrange the ticket to cinema' (should be 'book cinema tickets'). You also use 'vocation' when you likely meant 'vacation', which is a noticeable word-choice error. Despite these slips, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly and maintains the appropriate informal tone.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'visit in your city' (should be 'visit to your city'), 'extra two day off' (should be 'two days off'), and 'took us to explore' (should be 'take us to explore'). Additionally, there are minor punctuation and capitalization issues, such as 'The Raddisson' and 'jones'. While these errors are frequent, they do not impede communication, and the meaning remains clear throughout the letter. Increasing your control over articles and verb tenses would improve your score.
