Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Narendra,
I hope you're doing well. It's been a while since we last spoke. I'm writing to let you know that I'll be visiting Toronto on a business trip, for the upcoming week.
Firstly, the main purpose of this visit is to meet our foreign delegate and provide an update on their project status. Additionally, we are also planning to meet our colleagues, who are working from Toronto office. Since I will be staying for a whole week, I have some personal time to visit some of the popular attractions nearby.
I would ask that you should suggest me places for sightseeing such as the places that describe the architectural brilliance and history of Toronto. In addition to that, you can prepare a list of things that I can do in Toronto such as amusement parks and other adventures activities like sky diving.
Finally, I feel so happy if you can join me for any activity such as the cruise trip to the central island or the sky diving activity. Later on, we can go for the dinner at an Indian restaurant and wind-up our day.
Let me know your thoughts and suggestion on the places to visit. I will be waiting for your replay.
Best regards,
Raj Kumar

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly explained the purpose of your trip (business meetings), asked for recommendations regarding sightseeing and activities, and extended a warm invitation to your friend. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a friendly and informal register throughout. The ideas are well-developed and relevant to the task requirements. To reach a higher band, ensure that your requests for information are phrased more naturally, as some phrasing felt slightly formal or repetitive.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which helps the reader follow your ideas easily. You used some cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'Additionally', and 'In addition to that' to link your sentences. However, some of these transitions feel a bit mechanical. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words or relying more on referencing and substitution to create a smoother flow between sentences.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. You used some good topic-specific phrases such as 'architectural brilliance', 'foreign delegate', and 'project status'. There are a few minor word choice issues, such as 'adventures activities' (should be 'adventure activities') and 'wind-up our day' (which is slightly informal/clunky in this context). Overall, your vocabulary is adequate for the task, but incorporating more precise collocations would enhance the naturalness of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are some grammatical inaccuracies. For example, 'I would ask that you should suggest me' is redundant and grammatically awkward; a better structure would be 'I would appreciate it if you could suggest'. Additionally, 'I feel so happy if you can join me' should be 'I would be very happy if you could join me'. Despite these errors, they do not impede communication, and your control over punctuation is generally good.
