Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, as it is only 88 words long. While you have addressed all three bullet points—explaining the purpose of the trip, asking about sightseeing, and inviting your friend—the development of these ideas is extremely limited. The content is too brief to provide the necessary detail expected in a formal or semi-formal letter. To improve, you must expand on your ideas by providing more context about your job interview, asking more specific questions about the city, and suggesting a concrete plan for your meeting with your friend.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The letter lacks paragraphing, which is essential for organizing ideas in a letter format. The sentences are linked in a very basic, repetitive way, often starting with 'I' or 'I also'. There is a lack of cohesive devices to connect your ideas smoothly. To improve, you should organize your letter into clear paragraphs: one for the purpose of the trip, one for your questions about the city, and one for the invitation. Using transition words like 'furthermore', 'consequently', or 'in addition' would help improve the flow between your sentences.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is quite basic and repetitive. You use simple terms like 'beautiful town' and 'enjoy all things', which do not demonstrate the range required for a higher band. There are also several spelling errors, such as 'letyou', 'excitied', 'Niagra', 'eacsied', and 'wamt'. To improve, you should aim to use more precise vocabulary related to travel and business, and ensure you proofread your work to correct spelling mistakes. Expanding your range of adjectives and verbs will help you express your ideas more effectively.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The grammatical range is limited, consisting mostly of simple sentence structures. There are frequent errors in sentence construction and punctuation, such as the run-on sentence at the end of the letter. You also have issues with word order and missing articles (e.g., 'the Niagra falls'). To improve, try to incorporate a mix of simple and complex sentences. Focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and ensure that your punctuation is used correctly to separate distinct thoughts, which will make your writing much easier to follow.
