Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Rahul,
I hope you are doing well. It has been a while since we last spoke. I am writing to inform you about a business trip, which is planned in your city.
I have been woking in science company for 5 years and they recently, have organised a business trip in your city, where we will be spending 4 to 5 days for the research.
We will have some time for sightseeing while trip. I am not familiar with your city, so i have decided to invite you for exploring the city and that will be an oppertunity for me to spend time with you after a long time. We used to play different games when we were in school, so it would be a great, if we play those games with the members of my company in free time.
I searched lots of place in your city that must be visited, because they have something special that we want to know more, so i am giving you a responsibilty to explore not noly those placesbut also other things too.
I hope you can write back soon. Take care and give my regards to you family.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt, earning a solid rating. You have clearly explained the purpose of your trip ('business trip... spending 4 to 5 days for the research'), asked about things to do and see ('I am not familiar with your city, so i have decided to invite you for exploring the city'), and invited your friend to do something with you ('we play those games with the members of my company in free time'). However, some aspects are more fully developed than others. While the business purpose and the invitation are clearly stated, the request for specific sights is somewhat broad and under-developed, relying on generic statements like 'lots of place in your city that must be visited'. To reach the next level, you need to extend your ideas further by asking for specific recommendations regarding local landmarks or restaurants, rather than generalizing.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a clear, traditional layout appropriate for an informal letter. Information is generally organized logically, starting with a friendly greeting and purpose, moving through the details of the trip and sightseeing, and concluding with a warm sign-off. Paragraphing is used to separate different points, such as the company details and the invitation. However, cohesion is occasionally mechanical or faulty. For instance, transitional phrases like 'while trip' and 'so i have decided' feel slightly repetitive and simplistic. Furthermore, referencing is not always clear, as seen in the phrase 'that must be visited, because they have something special that we want to know more', where the pronoun linkage is a bit clumsy. Improving the variety of your linking devices and ensuring smoother transitions between ideas will help elevate this criterion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, providing enough words to communicate your message clearly, but it is limited in range. You make several spelling and word choice errors, such as 'woking' instead of working, 'oppertunity' instead of opportunity, and 'noly' instead of only. There are also slight collocations and word form slips, such as 'giving you a responsibilty to explore'. While these errors do not impede communication, they reflect a basic lexical control. To achieve a higher band, you need to incorporate a wider and more precise range of less common vocabulary and demonstrate better control over spelling and word formation when attempting more ambitious expressions.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, such as 'I am writing to inform you about a business trip, which is planned in your city.' You show decent control over basic tenses and sentence patterns. However, there are several errors in grammar and punctuation. For example, there are capitalization issues with pronouns ('i'), minor preposition and article errors ('in science company' instead of in a science company, 'while trip' instead of during the trip), and occasional comma splices or awkward phrasing like 'it would be a great, if we play'. While these errors rarely impede communication, the presence of frequent minor slips in articles, prepositions, and punctuation prevents the writing from reaching a higher accuracy band.
