Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You successfully covered all parts of the prompt. You clearly explained the purpose of your trip by mentioning your conference as a software engineer at Hotel Park Plaza, asked for recommendations regarding tourist attractions and activities, and invited your friend Sarah to join you and your colleagues for dinner on the final day. Your ideas are relevant, and the purpose of the letter is clear throughout. To move towards a higher band, you could extend your ideas further by providing more specific details about what kind of sights or activities you and your colleagues enjoy, making the tone and purpose even more naturally elaborated.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
Your letter shows a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. You used appropriate paragraphing, dividing your introduction, purpose, questions, invitation, and sign-off into distinct sections. You also used helpful cohesive devices such as 'As you know', 'Moreover', and 'In addition' to connect your ideas smoothly. However, there are minor moments where referencing or flow could be slightly more natural, such as the phrasing in 'things which can we do'. Continuing to refine how you transition between your thoughts will help elevate your overall cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You used an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting some less common words and phrases such as 'multinational company', 'conference', and 'tourist attraction'. However, there are notable word choice errors, spelling mistakes, and awkward collocations that hold back your score. For instance, writing 'I am exciting' instead of 'I am excited', 'planning to visit to your city' with an unnecessary preposition, spelling 'restaurants' as 'resturants', and the unnatural phrase 'different places, which are famous for tourist attraction'. Fixing these lexical inaccuracies and expanding your repertoire of natural phrases will significantly improve your lexical score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You demonstrated a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating clauses using words like 'which' and 'if time permits'. However, your writing contains frequent grammar errors in areas such as verb forms, prepositions, and punctuation. Examples include 'Hope you are doing good' (instead of well), 'on upcoming week' (instead of next week), 'We planned to explore' (where past continuous or future intent might be better suited), and the repetitive double pronoun in 'share with you you that I am planning'. Additionally, punctuation slips like the typo in 'nad join us' detract from the accuracy of your sentences.
