Task Achievement / Task Response3.5
Coherence and Cohesion4.0
Lexical Resource5.0
Grammatical Range and Accuracy4.5
Overall4.5

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

The response only partially addresses the task and falls well short of the required minimum length of 150 words, containing only 74 words. While the writer touches on the purpose of the trip and mentions visiting specific sights, the ideas are severely underdeveloped and lack necessary detail. The request for the friend to join is very minimal. To achieve a higher band, the response would need to fully develop all parts of the prompt with expanded explanations, greater context, and adequate length.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The text shows some basic organization with a greeting and a sign-off, but there is no clear overall progression or effective paragraphing. Sentences are presented as a series of isolated thoughts without adequate cohesive devices to connect them smoothly. Referencing and logical flow are limited, making the letter feel disjointed. Improving coherence requires grouping related ideas into clear paragraphs and using logical connectors to link sentences together fluidly.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task, containing noticeable spelling and word choice errors, such as 'Vist' instead of 'visit', 'spceial' instead of 'special', and capitalisation errors like 'On' and 'Actually'. There are also awkward collocations, such as 'Hope you received me'. While communication is not entirely blocked, the range is basic and repetitive. To improve, the writer should incorporate a wider variety of accurate vocabulary and carefully check spelling and word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The grammar demonstrates a limited range of sentence structures with frequent errors. There are issues with verb tenses and auxiliary verbs, as seen in 'Hope you and your family going great' and 'is to planning'. Punctuation and capitalization are also problematic throughout the text. Complex structures are either absent or faulty. To progress, the writer needs to demonstrate better control over basic sentence patterns, ensure correct subject-verb agreement, and reduce frequent grammatical errors.
