Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You successfully address all three bullet points required in the prompt by explaining the purpose of the business trip, asking about things to do and see, and inviting your friend to spend time together. The purpose is clearly stated as attending trade fairs as a senior manager, and you provide specific details regarding your arrival date and accommodation. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed; for instance, the mention of doing childhood activities together lacks specific elaboration on what those activities might actually be. To move towards higher bands, you should extend and support all your ideas with more descriptive details and fully flesh out each part of the prompt without rushing the narrative.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
Your letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement and follows a logical progression from stating the purpose of the visit to asking for recommendations and finally proposing specific dates for meeting. Paragraphing is utilized to separate your main ideas, though paragraph breaks could be managed more effectively, as the second paragraph combines your request for sightseeing advice with your invitation. Cohesive devices are used adequately, such as 'As, I am visiting' and 'Please let me know', but referencing is occasionally faulty, leading to mechanical transitions. To achieve a higher level of cohesion, ensure smoother links between sentences and employ a more natural variety of organizational markers without relying on repetitive structures.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, successfully conveying your message despite some noticeable limitations. You attempt some less common vocabulary items such as 'leisure time' and 'scenic beauties', but there are several word choice and spelling inaccuracies, such as 'benifit', 'plannig', 'avaiable', and 'availble', along with the collocation error 'scenic beauties avaiable'. Furthermore, terms like 'Air b' are informal and imprecise. These errors do not impede overall communication, but to reach a higher band you need to demonstrate a wider and more precise range of vocabulary, improve your spelling control, and use natural collocations consistently.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'I am writing to express my happiness, that I am visiting your city...' and clauses with subordinate conjunctions. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, including comma splices, missing spaces after punctuation marks, incorrect article usage in 'after long time', and awkward phrasing like 'activities we suppose to do'. Additionally, the sign-off 'Your faithfully' contains a grammatical error. These errors rarely impede communication, placing your control in the middle range. To improve your grammar score, focus on eliminating basic punctuation errors, ensuring correct subject-verb agreements, and refining your control over complex sentence structures.
