Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Raman,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing to inform that I have a business conference meeting in your city. As you are already aware that I am working in a pizza store and owner of the store has a plan to open a new franchise in Toronto downtown.Although meeting will be held on 23 october, the trip organised by my company is for one week.
Since childhood,I have a dream to visit CN tower. I think it would be a great opportunity for me to fulfil my desire. Additionally, we can spend quality time and will have a dinner together at night.
Furthermore, I would like you to come and see me at The Grand Marine hotel so that we can have a small get together and refresh our college memories. Apart from that, I still remember when we were in college, you used to make fruit cake for me. I would be delighted if you can make the same delicious cake for me.
I look forward for your prompt response.
Warm Regards,
Pawan

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three points: you explain that the trip is for a business conference about opening a franchise, mention your wish to visit the CN Tower, and invite Raman to meet at your hotel and share dinner. These details make the letter relevant and personal. However, some parts are less fully developed than others. The sightseeing request is implied through your own plan to visit the tower, but you do not directly ask Raman for recommendations about other things to see or do. The invitation is clear, though the proposed dinner and hotel gathering could be made more specific. Develop the request by asking which attractions or activities your friend recommends, and clarify when you would like to meet.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a coherent overall arrangement: it opens with the reason for writing, moves to sightseeing and spending time together, and ends with a request and a polite closing. Paragraphing helps distinguish these purposes, and linking expressions such as “Additionally” and “Furthermore” guide the reader. This meets the lower-band expectation of clear overall organisation and shows some of the flexibility associated with stronger cohesion. However, several transitions feel mechanical, and the relationship between the conference date and the week-long trip could be expressed more smoothly. The sightseeing paragraph also combines your personal wish with the dinner invitation without a clear transition. Use fewer formulaic connectors and make the progression between purpose, recommendations, and invitation more natural.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a friendly letter, including “business conference,” “franchise,” “quality time,” and “refresh our college memories.” These choices communicate the situation and give the letter a personal tone. You also attempt some less common expressions, although a few are inaccurate or unnatural: “conference meeting” is redundant, “get together” is better written as “get-together” when used as a noun, and “prompt response” sounds overly formal for a friend. “Fulfil my desire” is understandable but less natural than “make my dream come true.” These word-choice and collocation issues do not prevent understanding, but more natural phrasing and a consistent friendly register would improve precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a subordinate clause beginning “Although” and a conditional invitation with “if.” The meaning remains clear throughout, which is consistent with this level. Some grammatical errors remain, however. In “I am writing to inform that,” the verb needs an object (“inform you”), and “As you are already aware that” incorrectly combines two clause patterns. Articles and possessives are also missing in “the owner of the store,” while “I look forward for” should use the pattern “look forward to.” Capitalisation and punctuation need attention in “23 october” and “downtown.Although.” Review clause construction, articles, and fixed preposition patterns, then proofread sentence boundaries.
