Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sarah,
I hope you are doing well . I am very excited to tell you that I am planning to visit your city next month for my occupation confererence . During my visit i want to explore some attractive places in your area.
This trip is planned for my professional meeting with another softwear company and it is takes place in november 20 . The venue is near to your hometown and i will stay there for 7 days .
Fortunately , this all process is happening only in morning sessions so I will be free after my my all professional formalities. Therefore I want to explore some places and i want to do some shopping over there. However , I have already searched some famous places in your city .For instance , i will visit PAU university and Wave mall which are famous in your area.
I would pleased to invite you to join me during my visit .Because it has been long time that we last met so this will be a great chance for us to spend time with each other and have fun .
I am really looking forward to hear from you about my this plan and please write back about your plan and idea about this.
best wishes ,
Param

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The letter addresses all three requirements: you explain that the visit is for a professional meeting, ask indirectly about sightseeing and shopping, and invite Sarah to join you. The purpose and invitation are clear, especially in “I would pleased to invite you to join me.” You also give useful context about the conference timing and your seven-day stay. However, the request for advice is not fully developed: you name PAU University and Wave Mall as places you have already found, but do not clearly ask Sarah which sights or activities she recommends. The trip details are also somewhat unclear, including the date and the relationship between the conference venue and the city. Make the questions explicit and add a specific activity you hope to do together.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall sequence: you introduce the visit, explain its business purpose, describe your free time, and then invite Sarah. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and connectors such as “Therefore” and “Because” show how some ideas relate. The progression is understandable, but cohesion is not always smooth. “However” does not clearly contrast with the previous sentence, and the repeated “I want to” makes the sightseeing paragraph feel mechanical. Some references, such as “this all process” and “my this plan,” are unclear. Use more precise links and refer directly to the conference, your free afternoons, and the places you are considering. A direct question to Sarah would also create a more natural progression toward the invitation.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main points, including “professional meeting,” “venue,” “sightseeing,” and “formalities.” There are also attempts at more specific language, such as naming PAU University and Wave Mall. However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable and sometimes make the reader pause: “confererence,” “softwear,” and “attractive places” (where “sights” or “attractions” would be more natural). Several phrases are awkward or imprecise, including “for my occupation conference” and “do some shopping over there.” This fits a developing but limited range: the message remains understandable, yet collocations and spelling are not consistently controlled. Check common travel and business expressions and learn them as complete phrases.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, for example, “Fortunately, this all process is happening only in morning sessions so I will be free…” and “Because it has been long time that we last met…”. The overall meaning is usually clear, but some errors in verb forms, articles, agreement, and sentence construction remain. Examples include “it is takes place,” “I would pleased,” and “it has been long time”; these should be “it takes place,” “I would be pleased,” and “it has been a long time.” The sentence beginning “Because” is also awkwardly attached to the invitation. Punctuation and spacing around commas and full stops need attention. Practise accurate clause construction and review articles and auxiliary verbs while keeping your varied sentence attempts.
