Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sharma,

I'm writing to let you know that I'm planning a business trip to your city next month. I might have some free time, so I was wondering if we could explore some tourist attractions together.

My company is sending me to your city to give a business presentation to another client. Although it is crucial for me to succeed in this meeting, I will have some free time the following weekend after I finish my work with the client.

Do you have any suggestions about places to explore in your city? I'm also keen to try some famous dishes prepared by your mom.

It's been since last 2 years, we haven't met, so i wanted to spend some time with you. I'm very excited to invite you to explore a famous beach in your city. I heard that it was the best place for an attractions. In addition, we could also go to cinema theatre to watch latest science fiction movie.

Although my company offering me for an accommodation, I would love to stay at your house if possible.

I hope you like my suggestions, and I look forward to hearing your response.

Yours sincerely,

Dharmik

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

The letter clearly covers all three requirements: you explain that the trip is for a business presentation, ask for recommendations about local attractions, and invite your friend to visit the beach and go to the cinema. The purpose and invitation are easy to understand, and the personal reference to your friend’s mother’s cooking helps make the message relevant. To strengthen the response further, develop the sightseeing request with a more specific question—for example, whether there are particular landmarks or activities worth visiting—and make the proposed plans more definite. The accommodation request is an additional relevant detail, though it could be phrased more tactfully so it does not distract from the main invitation.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The information is arranged in a generally clear sequence: you introduce the trip, explain its business purpose, ask about sightseeing, and suggest activities before closing. Paragraph breaks help distinguish these points, and phrases such as “In addition” make the relationship between suggestions clear. However, some links feel mechanical or the progression is slightly abrupt. The sentence beginning “It’s been since last 2 years” shifts suddenly from asking for recommendations to explaining why you want to meet. A smoother transition could connect your long gap in contact directly to the invitation. The accommodation request also appears as a separate late point; integrating it more naturally would make the letter’s progression feel more controlled.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a friendly letter, including “business presentation,” “tourist attractions,” “keen,” and “science fiction movie.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and the tone is mostly appropriate. Some less natural word combinations and imprecise expressions limit the flexibility of the vocabulary, however. “The best place for an attractions” is awkward, while “cinema theatre” is unnecessarily repetitive. “Another client” is understandable but could be more precise in this context. Aim to learn common collocations for travel and invitations, such as “local sights,” “try local cuisine,” and “catch a film.” These refinements would make the letter sound more idiomatic without changing its friendly meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The letter includes both simple and more complex sentence forms, such as “Although it is crucial for me to succeed in this meeting, I will have some free time…” and “I was wondering if we could…”. Most meaning remains clear, but some grammatical errors occur. For example, “It’s been since last 2 years, we haven’t met” combines incompatible structures; write “It’s been two years since we last met.” In “Although my company offering me for an accommodation,” the verb form and sentence construction need correction: “Although my company is offering me accommodation…” Capitalise “I” in “i wanted,” and use “the latest science fiction movie.” Checking verb forms, articles, and sentence boundaries would improve accuracy.
