Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Mohit,
I am very excited to share a good news with you. Next month on November 18th, I am coming to singapore for my business trip.
I have some important meeting for international growth of our company. These meetings are in the same city where you live. It is my 7 days trip. I already have booked my flight and accomodation.
As you know I love travelling since childhood. I want to ask you more about this city because my meetings will take only few hours in a day. Later, I would be free. I want to spend this time to explore singapore and increase my knowledge. I would like to do some shopping and try traditional food there. I am over the moon to know about singapore's culture also.
I will send you the address of hotel when I recieve a confirmation email. I want to invite if you can come to spend some quality time with me. I would apperciate that because you are living there from time.
your faithfully
Harman

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three points clearly: you explain that you are visiting Singapore for business meetings, ask about sightseeing, shopping, food and culture, and invite Mohit to spend time with you. The purpose is specific, and the invitation is relevant to your friendship. This meets the descriptor for covering every part of the task with a clear purpose. To make the ideas more fully extended and supported, ask about particular attractions or activities rather than referring generally to “things to do and see,” and make the invitation more concrete—for example, suggest a day or an activity you could enjoy together. A more natural closing would also suit the friendly relationship better than “your faithfully.”
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter follows a sensible progression: you announce the trip, explain its business purpose, describe your free time, and then invite your friend. Paragraph breaks help distinguish these stages, and phrases such as “As you know” and “Later” guide the reader. This gives the response a coherent overall arrangement. However, some links are mechanical or unclear: “These meetings are in the same city where you live” repeats information, while “I want to invite if you can come” does not clearly connect the invitation to a specific plan. The final sign-off also feels abrupt. To show more flexible cohesion, connect related details more smoothly and use a clear transition into a specific invitation.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range for a personal letter, including relevant expressions such as “business trip,” “international growth,” “explore,” and “quality time.” These choices make your purpose and interests understandable, and you attempt more expressive language with “over the moon.” Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, however, as in “share a good news,” “increase my knowledge,” and “living there from time.” There are also spelling errors, including “accomodation,” “recieve,” and “apperciate.” These do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and naturalness. Check common collocations and spelling, and choose expressions that fit the friendly tone without sounding forced.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use both simple sentences and some longer structures, including “because my meetings will take only few hours in a day” and “I want to send you the address … when I recieve a confirmation email.” The main message remains understandable, but errors in articles, agreement, and sentence construction occur across the letter. For example, “a good news” needs a different article pattern, “some important meeting” needs plural agreement, and “I want to invite if you can come” is missing a grammatical structure such as “I’d like to invite you to…” The closing phrase also has an incorrect form. Practise accurate noun phrases and invitation patterns, then proofread each sentence for articles, plurals, and complete constructions.
