Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sam.

I hope you are doing great, i am writing this letter to let you know that next week friday i am coming to your town Niagara Falls. As you know i am working in finance department in my company in Toronto from last five years. So, my company wants me to meet a very imortant client and present them some quotes for upcoming projects in your town. In this trip, my company will take care of all my expences.

So i want to know from you about some good places to visit in your city. I already know some big attractions such an Niagara falls and halton casino. I was thinking if you could take me to some good places that are only known by locals. During my stay i'll be staying in casio hotel which is located near falls, and there will be a pizza party on a street next to hotel on Saturday night. i want to visit that event with you so i really hope if you could join me there. After that, we will go visit falls. This would be a wonderful experince for both of us.

Your friend,

Kartar.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

The letter clearly covers all three requirements: you explain that you are travelling to meet a client and present project quotations, ask Sam about places known to locals, and invite them to the Saturday pizza event and a visit to the falls. These details make the purpose and invitation clear, and the friendly tone suits the recipient. The request for sightseeing advice is relevant, though it could be developed further by asking about particular interests, transport, or other attractions. The invitation is also specific, but the sequence after the party (“After that, we will go visit falls”) sounds more like a fixed plan than an invitation. A warmer, more open question would make this part more engaging and fully developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The information follows a sensible order: you introduce the trip, explain its business purpose, ask for local recommendations, and then suggest an activity together. Paragraphing helps distinguish the purpose from the sightseeing plans, and phrases such as “So” and “During my stay” guide the reader through the letter. However, some links feel mechanical or unclear. For example, “So i want to know” repeats a basic transition, while “After that, we will go visit falls” does not clearly show whether this is part of the invitation or a separate plan. The opening and closing are appropriate, but clearer paragraph breaks and more varied, precise connections between the activities would make the progression smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a friendly letter, including relevant expressions such as “finance department,” “upcoming projects,” “attractions,” and “known by locals.” These choices communicate the business context and sightseeing plans effectively. There are also several spelling errors, including “imortant,” “expences,” and “experince,” and some word choices or collocations are awkward: “present them some quotes” and “some big attractions” are less natural in this context. “Casio hotel” also appears to be an inaccurate spelling of the hotel name. These issues do not prevent understanding, but careful proofreading and more precise collocations would improve control and make the vocabulary sound more natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The letter includes both simple and more developed sentence forms, such as the explanation beginning “As you know” and the sentence describing the hotel and Saturday event. The main ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical and punctuation errors recur. For example, “next week friday i am coming” needs more accurate capitalization and phrasing, and “i am working … from last five years” uses an incorrect tense pattern; “I have worked … for the last five years” would be more accurate. In “such an Niagara Falls,” the article is incorrect, and “visit falls” needs a determiner. Sentence boundaries and capitalization also need attention, particularly the lowercase “i” and the full stop after “Dear Sam.” More consistent editing would improve accuracy.
