Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Mamjot,

I am writing this letter to inform you about my business trip to your city that I planned recently.

I am very excited to come to your city next month regarding my company's business trip. Actually I am wondering about the places we can explore during my leisure time. I really want you to make a list of those tourist attraction areas where we could enjoy our quality of time together.

I would like to you to join me in the trip and guide me as you know I am unaware about your city. It would be grateful if you can manage your work schedule for 2 weeks. Therefore, we can spend little time together as it has been long since we met.

Yours faithfully,

Lovepreet

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three points: you explain that you are coming for a company business trip, ask your friend to suggest attractions, and invite them to join you. The purpose is clear, and the wish to spend time together after a long gap adds a personal touch. However, the sightseeing request remains general: you ask for a list of attractions but do not mention what you enjoy or ask about particular activities. The invitation is also unclear in “join me in the trip,” and asking your friend to manage work for “2 weeks” may not fit the stated visit. The response is 22 words below the required minimum, so there is limited space to develop these ideas. Add specific questions and a clearer invitation.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall sequence: you introduce the trip, ask about sightseeing, and then invite your friend. Paragraphing helps distinguish the main purposes, and linking expressions such as “Actually” and “Therefore” make the relationships between ideas understandable. This coherent arrangement meets the lower-band expectations and shows some control of progression. However, the transitions can feel mechanical, and “Therefore” does not connect naturally to the preceding request about managing work. The second paragraph also combines the sightseeing question with the invitation, so the reader has to infer how the ideas relate. Use a separate paragraph for the invitation and connect ideas more directly, for example by explaining that your friend’s suggestions would help you plan your free time.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is adequate for communicating the main purpose, and phrases such as “business trip,” “tourist attraction areas,” and “spend little time together” show attempts to use language beyond very basic wording. The meaning is generally clear, but some choices are inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision. For example, “regarding my company’s business trip” is an awkward way to describe the reason for travelling, while “quality of time” and “join me in the trip” do not express your intended meaning naturally. “Tourist attraction areas” is also less idiomatic than a direct reference to sights or places to visit. Choose common, precise collocations and vary the wording for sightseeing and spending time together.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and more developed sentence forms, including the relative clause “as you know I am unaware about your city” and the reason clause “as it has been long since we met.” The message remains understandable, and the errors do not generally prevent communication. Some grammatical problems are evident, however: “I would like to you to join me” has an incorrect infinitive pattern, and “It would be grateful if you can” needs a different subject and conditional form. There are also issues with articles and prepositions, as in “in the trip” and “for 2 weeks.” Review verb patterns after “would like,” conditional requests, and article use. More consistently accurate complex sentences would strengthen the letter.
