Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear prabh,

I am writing you a letter in connection of my visit in your city. I wanted to get some advice from you regarding the places and activies.

I am planning to visit at your city because I get one project which is taking place near of you. After this I have two days off from work and my manger said I can go to see sightseeing or what ever i wanted i can do.

You are a native and you have more knowledge about your area, if you could tell me about the activities or other places that I can spend some quality time and I just wanted to make it memorable.

As I mentioned it is my business trip and I am coming alone on this visit, It will be a wounderfull if you would join me. we will make more memories and remenber our childhood. I also heared from you that there is one famouse market and we will hangout there.

I hope you will come and see me on this trip, Thank you for your time and give my greetings to aunt and uncle.

Your friend,

Ramandeep

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The letter addresses all three requirements: you explain that the visit is for a work project, ask your friend for suggestions about activities and places, and invite them to join you. The purpose is clear in “I am planning to visit … because I get one project,” and the invitation is reinforced by the reference to visiting a market together. These relevant details make the message complete and give it a friendly purpose. To make the ideas more fully developed, specify what kind of sightseeing or activity interests you, or suggest a particular day or plan for meeting. The request for recommendations is clear but remains fairly general.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The message follows a sensible sequence: it introduces the visit, explains the business purpose and free time, asks for recommendations, and then invites your friend. Paragraph breaks help distinguish these stages, and phrases such as “As I mentioned” connect the invitation to the earlier explanation. This gives the letter a coherent overall arrangement. Some links are less smooth, however: “I wanted to get some advice” is followed by a separate explanation before the request is developed, and the final paragraph combines the invitation, market plan, thanks, and family greetings. Grouping related points more carefully and using clearer transitions would make the progression more natural and cohesive.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “business trip,” “activities,” “quality time,” and “memorable.” The friendly tone is appropriate for writing to someone you know. However, several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, such as “activies,” “wounderfull,” “remenber,” and “famouse.” Some phrases are also unnatural or imprecise, including “get some advice,” “go to see sightseeing,” and “make more memories.” Choose more natural collocations and check spelling carefully; this would help your meaning come across more smoothly. For example, “go sightseeing” and “make lasting memories” fit the context better.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mixture of simple and longer sentences, including conditional phrasing in “if you could tell me” and “if you would join me.” The main message remains understandable, but errors occur across sentence patterns and sometimes make the reader pause. Examples include “I am writing you a letter in connection of my visit,” “I am planning to visit at your city,” and the run-on construction “my manger said I can go to see sightseeing or what ever i wanted i can do.” There are also inconsistent capitalisation and punctuation, such as “we” after a full stop and the comma splice before “It will be.” Practise accurate prepositions, clause boundaries, and sentence punctuation.
