Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sam,

How are you ? I hope you are doing great. It has been long time since we met last time. You know i have some good news to share with you. I am visiting your city next monday by plane.

I have business meeting with clients in your town at K.P Group. The best thing is that i will stay there five days. After attending a meeting, we can spend time together to create new memories and reminisce some old ones. I have made a plan for my stay that first day of my trip i will stay at your home and do rest followed by the meeting. On the third and fourth day, I would like to go out to see some historical places in your city. We will go for shopping and watch movie on the last day of my trip.

I would be delighted if you take some days off from work and stay with me, so that we can enjoy time together.

I hope to meet you soon.

Yours lovingly,

Raman

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You cover the main purpose of the letter: you explain that you are visiting for a business meeting with clients at K.P Group, ask about sightseeing by mentioning historical places, and invite Sam to spend time with you. The invitation is clear, especially in “I would be delighted if you take some days off from work.” However, the request for advice about what to see or do is not directly expressed as a question, and the proposed itinerary is somewhat unclear—for example, you say you will stay at Sam’s home on the first day, then refer to “the third and fourth day” without explaining the second. Develop the sightseeing request by asking for specific recommendations and make the plans easier to follow.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall sequence: you greet Sam, announce the trip, explain its business purpose, outline possible activities, and close with an invitation. Paragraphing helps distinguish the opening from the trip details, and phrases such as “After attending a meeting” and “on the last day” guide the reader through the plans. This coherent arrangement meets the expected level, though some connections are mechanical or unclear. In particular, “I have made a plan for my stay that first day…” makes the transition into the itinerary awkward, and the jump from the first day to the third and fourth leaves a gap. Use clearer sequencing and link each activity to a specific day.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a friendly letter, including “business meeting,” “historical places,” “rem inisce,” and “delighted,” which communicate the main ideas and add some warmth. There are also attempts at natural expressions such as “create new memories.” Some word choices and collocations are less natural, however: “do rest” would be better expressed as “rest,” and “stay there five days” needs a more idiomatic phrasing such as “stay there for five days.” “Watch movie” also needs an article or plural form. These choices do not prevent understanding, but more accurate collocations and a little more variety when asking about local attractions would make the letter more fluent and precise.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and more developed sentence forms, including “After attending a meeting, we can spend time together…” and the invitation clause beginning “I would be delighted if…”. The message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur. For example, “It has been long time” needs an article, “I have business meeting” also needs an article, and “if you take some days off” would be more natural with a conditional form such as “if you could take some days off.” There are also tense and punctuation issues, including “I am visiting… next Monday” alongside plans described with “I will stay,” and spaces before question marks. Review articles, conditional forms, and punctuation while retaining your varied sentence structures.
