Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Ms. Martha,
I am writing this letter in regards to parking lot availability at evening. I am facing issues in finding a appropriate parking spot for my car, usually, when I arrived home from work. I observed that some cars were not parked properly in their allotted lot which causes to leave less room for other cars to park.
To elaborate, Lot A says parking is reserved for inaccessible people, still, those who find this spot empty, parked a car in that spot. Furthermore, this leads to trouble to them and as a result, they parked in someone's spot taking more room as usual. To resolve this problem, each member of the apartment shall assigned with a designated space for parking with their names on that area such as Lot A is for member who is living in Flat 1, Lot B for Flat 2 and so on. This reduces the chaos and provides comfort on parking spots at anytime. This initiative may work as our parking space is sufficient, just unorganised.
I hope you can find the best outcome for the problem and get back to us as soon as possible.
Thank you.
Your faithfully,
Mansi

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three points: you describe difficulty finding a space after work, explain the disruption caused by cars using spaces improperly, and propose assigning each flat a designated space. The suggestion is relevant and supported with examples such as “Lot A is for member who is living in Flat 1.” Your position is clear, and the letter maintains an appropriate, polite purpose. Some details could be developed more precisely: the reference to “inaccessible people” is unclear, and the explanation of how other drivers end up taking extra room is difficult to follow. Clarifying who is entitled to each space and how the landlord could enforce the arrangement would make the proposal more convincing and fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall sequence: you introduce the parking problem, explain its effects, suggest a solution, and close politely. Connectors such as “To elaborate,” “Furthermore,” and “To resolve this problem” help signal the stages of your argument, and the paragraphs broadly support this progression. However, some links feel mechanical, and the reasoning within the second paragraph is not always easy to track: “this leads to trouble to them” leaves the people affected unclear. The opening paragraph also combines several points in one long stretch. Use clearer paragraph breaks and more precise references, and connect each consequence directly to its cause. This would preserve the coherent arrangement while making the progression smoother and more flexible.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the situation, including “allotted,” “designated space,” “chaos,” and “initiative.” These choices show an attempt to be specific and formal, and the meaning is generally understandable. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, however: “parking lot availability at evening,” “a appropriate parking spot,” and “comfort on parking spots” do not express the ideas naturally. “Inaccessible people” is also unclear in this context. Aim for conventional phrases such as “availability of parking spaces in the evening” and “accessible parking spaces,” and check whether verbs and nouns commonly occur together. More precise, natural phrasing would improve flexibility without requiring more complicated vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a relative clause in “cars were not parked properly in their allotted lot which causes…” and a conditional-style explanation of the proposed arrangement. The overall message remains understandable, but some errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction reduce accuracy. For example, “when I arrived home” should be “when I arrive home” for a recurring situation, while “each member … shall assigned” needs a passive form such as “shall be assigned.” In “those who find this spot empty, parked a car,” the subject and verb are incorrectly separated and the tense is inconsistent. Review these patterns and punctuate longer sentences carefully; more consistently accurate clauses would strengthen the range you are already attempting.
