Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Surresh,
I am writing to compalin about lack of space in the parking lot of the building.
I live in a small apartment and there is a lack of parking space in the back of the house. When I come back from work I observe that the neighbours have already park their car in the parking area because of this I never get sapce to park my car.
This situation bothers me a lot because I always pay my rent on time. Moreover, I am paying extra money for the parking area and still I never get an opportunity to park my car. Instead of parking the car in the lot I park it on the road which raises my safety concern for my car .
However, I would suggest to maak a seperate space for car parking and the area should be alloted by mentioning the names of the tenents, so that another people would not park their car in the restricted area. If anyone does this a strict action should be taken against them.
I look forward to hearning from you.
Yours faithfully,
Manmeet

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You described the situation regarding the lack of parking, explained why it is a problem (paying rent/safety concerns), and provided a clear suggestion for the landlord. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a landlord. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are slightly more developed; for instance, you could elaborate on the specific safety risks you face when parking on the road. Overall, the response is clear and fulfills the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'However', and 'because of this' to connect your ideas. While the flow is generally good, some transitions feel slightly mechanical. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that the progression between sentences is smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate for a letter format, which helps the reader follow your argument easily. The structure is sufficient to convey your message clearly.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, such as 'restricted area' and 'safety concern'. However, there are several spelling errors (e.g., 'compalin', 'sapce', 'maak', 'seperate', 'alloted', 'tenents', 'hearning') that detract from the overall quality. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more careful proofreading. To improve, focus on mastering the spelling of common words and try to incorporate more precise collocations to enhance your writing style.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'When I come back from work I observe that...'. There are several grammatical errors, particularly with verb tenses and subject-verb agreement, such as 'neighbours have already park' (should be 'parked') and 'another people' (should be 'other people'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning. To improve, focus on consistent verb tense usage and pluralization rules. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures would also help elevate your score.
