Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Mr. Rohit,

I hope this letter find you in radiant health. I am writing this letter to inform you about the parking space problems that I am facing since last six months.

I have been living in your apartment with family since last 10 years. Currently, facing challenges to park my car in the parking lot at night because I work late night at office till 11:00 pm, and reach apartment at 12:00 am. I am the only person who come too late at night therefore all the free spaces in parking are fill when I reach home. Moreover, number of tenants has been increased this month therefore space in parking area has filled. I would recommend you to extend the parking lot for increased number of people in the flat. There is a free land in front of the apartment that is on sale. You can purchase this land so that it can be used as parking lot to fulfill the extended needs of apartment.

I await your prompt response for this letter.

Thank you.

Yours truly,

Rajdeep Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: describing the situation, explaining the impact, and suggesting a solution. Your tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a landlord. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented. To reach a higher band, ensure that you provide slightly more depth in your explanation of why the situation is bothersome—for example, mentioning the safety concerns of walking from a distant location late at night or the inconvenience of carrying groceries. Overall, the task is fully addressed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover' and 'therefore' to link your ideas. However, the paragraphing is somewhat limited; the entire body of the letter is contained in one block. Breaking this into two paragraphs—one for the problem and one for the proposed solution—would improve the visual structure and flow. Additionally, some transitions feel slightly mechanical. Using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring clear paragraph breaks will help you achieve a higher score in this criterion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'radiant health' and 'prompt response'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'parking space problems that I am facing since last six months' (should be 'have been facing for the last six months') and 'all the free spaces in parking are fill' (should be 'filled'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over verb forms and prepositional phrases. Expanding your vocabulary to include more specific terms related to property management would be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb tenses and articles. For example, 'I hope this letter find you' should be 'finds you', and 'I am writing this letter to inform you about the parking space problems that I am facing since last six months' contains tense errors. Additionally, there are missing articles, such as 'I work late night at office' (should be 'at the office'). While these errors rarely impede the overall meaning, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage.
