Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear landlord,

I hope this letter will find you in radiant health and the best of spirits. I am writing this letter for regarding parking space which was provided by you to different tenants.

Whenever, I come after from my work I never get a space of parking even though I am paying additional parking fees. As you know that at the time of agreement we mutually decide for specific parking lot. Moreover, I also told security to reserved my spot but a individual always parked at my parking lot. For that reason I have to park my vehicle at outside of building and its not approprite for me.

Furthurmore, I kindly suggest you to take some action on it such as if someone park there car on other person spot they will have to pay charge or their vehicle will tow.

I am waiting for your response.

Your faithdu

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The letter addresses all three bullet points: the situation is described, the impact is explained, and a solution is proposed. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter to a landlord, although the opening is slightly overly formal for the context. The ideas are relevant, though the development is somewhat brief. To reach a higher band, you could provide more specific details about the frequency of the issue or the specific impact on your daily routine to better demonstrate the urgency of the situation.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'For that reason', and 'Furthermore'. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical or slightly misused, such as 'Whenever, I come after from my work'. The referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect your thoughts more naturally rather than relying on simple sentence structures.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, but it is somewhat limited and contains several errors in word choice and collocation. For example, 'radiant health' is a bit unusual in this context, and 'a individual' should be 'an individual'. You also use 'appropriate' incorrectly as 'approprite' and have a spelling error in the sign-off ('faithdu'). While the meaning is clear, the range of vocabulary is basic, and the errors in spelling and word formation prevent a higher score. Focusing on common collocations related to housing and complaints would be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

There is a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but the accuracy is inconsistent. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'I am writing this letter for regarding', 'I also told security to reserved my spot' (should be 'reserve'), and 'if someone park there car' (should be 'parks their'). Additionally, there are issues with articles and prepositions, such as 'at outside of building'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall clarity and professionalism of the letter.
