Student answer (Band 7.0)

Respected Sir,

I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to describe about parking issue that I am facing in each and every day after coming home from work.

In the evening, the parking area is filled with numerous cars as every department has more than one car which is core of this problem. Moreover, Most of the visitors park their cars in the resident's place, that's why I have to park my car at the road which is far away from the apartment.

The bothering thing for is tension if my car is damage as well as most of the time come late night with home stuffs and it is always hard for me to walk from my parked car to my apartment.

I have some suggestions for you which you can suggest to the building members to get rid of this situation. Firstly, every apartment must allocate one parking spot which will be helpful for whole society. Secondly, visitors parking should be allocate for the specific time.

Thanks you

Gurpreet

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The letter addresses all three bullet points: describing the parking situation, explaining the impact, and suggesting solutions. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to a landlord, although the opening 'Respected Sir' is slightly formal for a residential context. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented, though the development of the 'bothering' aspect could be more detailed. The suggestions are practical and directly address the problem mentioned. Overall, the response fulfills the requirements of the task effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized into distinct paragraphs, each focusing on a specific part of the prompt. The progression of ideas is clear, moving from the problem to the impact and finally to the solutions. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Firstly', and 'Secondly' are used to link ideas, although some transitions are slightly mechanical. Referencing is generally clear, though the sentence structure in the third paragraph is a bit fragmented, which slightly affects the flow of information.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate their message clearly. There are some instances of slightly unnatural phrasing, such as 'describe about parking issue' (should be 'describe the parking issue') and 'home stuffs' (should be 'groceries' or 'shopping'). While the range is sufficient to convey the intended meaning, it lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band score. The errors do not impede communication, but they highlight a need for more natural collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'in each and every day' (redundant), 'the parking area is filled with numerous cars as every department has more than one car' (slightly awkward), and 'visitors parking should be allocate' (should be 'allocated'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor slips throughout. While the meaning is always clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band.
