Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Mr Brown,
I hope you are doing well, I am writing regarding the issue about parking in our apartment building which is often faced by me when I get home from work.
After work, when I come home I always struggle to find a parking spot for my car. The main reason for this issue is the outsiders who usually come in our building for dance classes, that's why all parking spots are occupied and unable to park the car.
This situation bothers me in different ways such as, I have to park my car outside the building near to local shops which is not safe at all and then after few hours I have come back and park it again inside the building. It is complete wastage of time as you know after work I have to study for the upcoming exams.
To resolve this problem, you should alot the fixed parking spots for the people who belongs to this building and built a new parking space for the outsiders and visitors. In this way no one would struggle for the parking.
Thank you for your time and consideration, I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours Sincerely,
Nav

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You described the situation clearly, explained the negative impact on your daily routine, and provided a logical suggestion for the landlord. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a landlord. To reach a higher band, you could expand slightly on the 'why it bothers you' section by elaborating on the stress or frustration caused, rather than just the time factor. However, the response is fully developed and meets all requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. You use paragraphing effectively to separate the different points. There is a good use of cohesive devices such as 'The main reason for this', 'This situation bothers me', and 'To resolve this problem'. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions could be more sophisticated. For instance, the sentence 'that's why all parking spots are occupied and unable to park the car' is slightly clunky; using a connector like 'consequently' would improve the flow and cohesion between the cause and the effect.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task. You use relevant terms like 'occupied', 'consideration', and 'resolve'. There are some minor errors in word choice, such as 'alot' (should be 'allocate') and 'belongs to this building' (should be 'residents of this building'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precision. To improve, try to incorporate more specific collocations related to parking and property management to elevate the register of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical slips, such as 'which is often faced by me' (passive voice is a bit awkward here; 'which I often face' is more natural) and 'it is complete wastage' (missing an article: 'a complete waste'). Punctuation is generally functional, though there are some comma splices, such as in the first sentence. Despite these errors, your meaning is always clear, and the grammar does not prevent the reader from understanding your message. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures will help improve this score.
