Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The letter addresses all three bullet points: describing the parking situation, explaining why it is problematic, and suggesting a solution. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a landlord. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented, though the development could be slightly more sophisticated. For instance, the explanation of the financial burden caused by the parking fines is clear and directly supports the request for action. The letter maintains a consistent purpose throughout, and the reader is left with a clear understanding of the writer's needs and the desired outcome.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Last sunday' and 'As in our lease agreement', which help guide the reader. However, the flow between some sentences is slightly mechanical, and the use of cohesive devices could be more varied to improve the overall cohesion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the problem from the proposed solution, which aids readability.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their message clearly. There are some spelling errors, such as 'regading', 'Appartments', 'landlored', 'alot', and 'imedately'. Additionally, some word choices are slightly unnatural, such as 'city impote me fine' instead of 'the city imposed a fine on me'. While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede the overall meaning of the letter. To reach a higher band, the writer should focus on accuracy in spelling and more precise collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The letter uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'I am writing you this letter regading the problem' (missing preposition), 'From last week I am facing problem' (tense error), and 'I can pay these ticket' (number agreement). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the placement of spaces before commas. While these errors are frequent, the meaning remains clear throughout. The writer demonstrates an attempt at complex structures, but control over these is inconsistent.
