Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Landlord,
I hope this email finds you well, I am writing this to you to discuss the issue I have been facing a problem about parking lot lately. Whenever I come home from work I cannot find any empty space in the parking lot and it gets difficult to park my car and I tried to find a parking space near the apartment but it takes lot of time and effort to find a safe parking space to park my car outside the apartment. So I found a solution which might be helpful, suppose if everyone in the apartment have their own desired parking space for their vehicle in the apartment. It can prevent wasting time on finding parking spaces and it will be less stressful and less time consuming for everyone.
Thank you for you time, Let me know what you think about this suggestion, I hope to hear from you soon.
Warm Regards,
Shruti

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the prompt: describing the situation, explaining why it is bothersome, and suggesting a solution. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a landlord. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited. For example, while you mention that finding parking is 'difficult' and 'time consuming,' you could have elaborated more on the specific impact this has on your daily routine to make the argument more persuasive. The suggestion is clear, but the explanation of how it would be implemented is brief. Overall, the response covers the requirements but lacks the depth needed for a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The letter is generally easy to follow, but the paragraphing is insufficient. The entire body of the letter is presented as one large block of text, which makes it harder for the reader to distinguish between the situation, the impact, and the proposed solution. While you use some cohesive devices like 'Whenever' and 'So,' the flow between sentences is occasionally repetitive, particularly with the repeated use of 'parking space' and 'apartment.' Improving the use of transition signals and breaking the text into distinct paragraphs would significantly enhance the logical progression of your ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your message clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'parking lot,' 'empty space,' and 'time consuming.' However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is noticeable repetition of basic words. For instance, you use the phrase 'parking space' or 'parking lot' multiple times in a short space. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more varied vocabulary, such as 'designated spots,' 'inconvenience,' or 'allocate,' and ensure that your word choices are more precise to avoid repetitive phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are several grammatical errors that affect the flow. There are issues with comma splices, such as 'I hope this email finds you well, I am writing this...' and 'Thank you for you time, Let me know...'. Additionally, there are minor errors in phrasing, such as 'discuss the issue I have been facing a problem about' (which is redundant) and 'suppose if everyone... have their own' (which should be 'suppose everyone had their own'). While these errors do not prevent understanding, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall accuracy.
