Dear Conor,

I hope you are doing well. I am writing to express my disappointment regarding parking space which is always full when I get home from work.

Unfortunately, when I return from my work, always the back parking lot is full. However, I have to park my vehicle on the streets and, which is not safe enough to park.

Due to this problem, firstly, I have to park car on a unsafe street and the walking distance is huge from street to the apartment. Secondly, I noticed an increasing number of incident of car pulling by city authority. This is the main points which bother me the most.

I have a productive suggestions to solve this issue. First of all, restrict outside cars to park in our parking lot. In addition to this, allocate a particular parking lot to the flat owners or tenant. Therefore, I request you to please advice society members to think about this problem.

I hope you understand my situation and I am looking forward to get a prompt solution in this matter.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points: describing the parking situation, explaining the negative impact, and proposing solutions. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a landlord. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented, though the development of the 'why it bothers you' section could be slightly more sophisticated. For instance, the mention of 'car pulling' (towing) is a strong, specific detail that adds weight to the argument. Overall, the response fulfills the requirements of the task effectively, providing a clear purpose and logical suggestions for the landlord to consider.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a distinct purpose. The use of cohesive devices such as 'Unfortunately', 'Due to this problem', 'firstly', 'secondly', and 'In addition to this' helps guide the reader through the argument. However, there are some minor issues with referencing and flow, such as the phrase 'and, which is not safe enough to park', where the punctuation and structure are slightly awkward. Despite these minor mechanical issues, the progression of ideas is clear throughout the letter, and the paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the situation, the impact, and the proposed solutions.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate their needs clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'productive suggestions' and 'allocate', which are used correctly. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'incident of car pulling' (should be 'towing') and 'advice society members' (should be 'advise'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over word forms and collocations to reach a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The letter uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the streets', 'a unsafe street') and sentence construction ('always the back parking lot is full'). There are also minor punctuation errors, such as the unnecessary comma before 'which' in the second paragraph. The writer demonstrates an ability to use complex sentences, but the frequency of small errors in basic grammar prevents a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage would significantly improve the accuracy of the writing.
