Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Bob,
I hope this message finds you well. I am writing this letter to express my concerns regarding the limited parking space located at the back of the apartment building and, I would like to suggest few possible solutions to this ongoing issue.
To begin with, I own a SUV car, which I use to commute to my office on weekdays. Since my work requires me to stay for a longer period of time in the office, I usually return late at my house and struggle to find a parking space.
I would request you to kindly resolve this issue at the earliest convenience by offering a permanent empty space at the time of my arrival. I am genuinely curious to see if my suggestion will lead to a prompt response on your part.
Your considerate support would be greatly appreciated
I am waiting to hear back from you soon
Kind Regards,
Cheshta Malik

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points: describing the parking situation, explaining why it is a problem, and suggesting a solution. However, the development of these points is somewhat thin. For instance, you mention that you struggle to find a space, but you do not explain the impact this has on your daily routine or stress levels. Additionally, your suggested solution—requesting a permanent space—is a bit vague and lacks detail on how the landlord might implement this (e.g., assigning spots or issuing permits). To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is expanded with more specific detail or justification.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter follows a logical structure with a clear opening and closing. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'To begin with' and 'Since', which help the reader follow your argument. However, the paragraphing is slightly disjointed; the second paragraph is quite short, and the transition between the problem and the proposed solution could be smoother. The use of linking words is functional but somewhat mechanical. To improve, try to vary your cohesive devices and ensure that each paragraph focuses on a single, well-developed idea to enhance the overall flow of the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'commute', 'ongoing issue', and 'earliest convenience'. There are some minor errors in word choice, such as 'return late at my house' (should be 'to my house') and 'a SUV car' (should be 'an SUV'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. Incorporating more idiomatic expressions or precise collocations related to property management would elevate your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as the conditional sentence in the final paragraph. There are a few grammatical inaccuracies, such as 'suggest few possible solutions' (missing 'a') and the slightly awkward phrasing 'I am genuinely curious to see if my suggestion will lead to a prompt response'. Punctuation is generally correct, though there is a redundant comma in the first paragraph after 'building'. The errors present do not impede communication, but you should aim for greater control over articles and prepositions to achieve a higher score.
