Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Mr Gold,
This letter is to bring your attention on the parking problem which I face while parking in the lot.
I am a tenant from your building complex living in apartment number 7 from last 2 months. I often need to spend ten to fifteen minutes in the parking lot to park my car after travelling from work. This is continuously happening to me since I started living here.
Although this building has its own private area for tenant car parks, after a long working day I spend a considerable amount of time to park. Moreover, it sometimes involves waiting for other cars to leave a site in order to park there. This bothers me because the moment I leave my workplace my mind starts thinking about the parking spot which increases stress.
However, you could consider assigning a parking space for each apartment. This is due to the fact that some tenants park more than one car which create problems for other renters. This will not only reduce the parking problem but also make people responsible about the value of time in the life of each individual.
I hope you take this into consideration. I look forward to your prompt response.
Yours sincerely,
Deep

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You described the situation clearly, explained the negative impact on your stress levels, and provided a logical suggestion for the landlord to implement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a landlord. The ideas are well-developed and the purpose of the letter is clear from the outset. To reach a higher band, ensure that your opening statement is more precise; for example, 'bring your attention to' is more accurate than 'bring your attention on'. Overall, the task is fully accomplished.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task, which helps the reader follow your argument easily. You use cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Although', and 'However' to link your sentences and paragraphs effectively. The structure is sound, and the transition between describing the problem and suggesting a solution is smooth. The paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter, and the overall flow is natural and easy to follow throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. Phrases like 'building complex', 'considerable amount of time', and 'prompt response' are used correctly. There are some minor collocation issues, such as 'bring your attention on' (should be 'to') and 'leave a site' (which sounds slightly unnatural in this context; 'leave a space' would be better). However, these errors do not impede communication. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations related to housing and parking to show greater flexibility and control over your word choices.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as the conditional-like structure in your suggestion paragraph. While there are some grammatical slips, such as 'I am a tenant... from last 2 months' (should be 'for the last two months') and 'which create problems' (should be 'creates'), these errors are infrequent and do not cause confusion. Your control over punctuation and sentence boundaries is generally good. To achieve a higher score, focus on subject-verb agreement and preposition usage, as these are the primary areas where minor inaccuracies currently occur.
