Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mr. Brown,
I am writing this letter to draw your attention towards parking problem in the apartment building. Although there is parking lot behind the building for the tenants. I often cannot find an empty space when I come back from work, especially in the evening .
I have noticed some unauthorized vehicles in that area. Owing to this problem, I have had to park my car far away from the building which is quite inconvenient for me, because it is difficult to carry heavy groceries and walk for long or in the rainy season to find a designated place in the streets.
I would appreciate it if you could allow a numbering system to all the tenants and put a notice that unauthorized vehicles will be towed so that people could avoid using that space.
I look forward to your prompt response.
Yours faithfully,
Kiran

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The letter covers all three bullet points: describing the parking situation, explaining the inconvenience, and suggesting a solution. However, the response is slightly under the 150-word minimum, which impacts the overall task completion. While the ideas are relevant and clearly expressed, the development is somewhat brief. To reach a higher band, you should expand slightly on the impact of the problem or provide more detail in your proposed solution to ensure the word count requirement is met and the ideas are fully extended.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, with each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. The progression of ideas is easy to follow. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Although', 'Owing to this', and 'so that', which help connect your thoughts. However, the use of these devices is somewhat basic. To improve, try to incorporate a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the transition between sentences feels more natural rather than mechanical.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'unauthorized vehicles', 'designated place', and 'prompt response'. The meaning is consistently clear. However, there are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'draw your attention towards parking problem' (should be 'the parking problem') and 'allow a numbering system' (a more natural phrasing would be 'assign a numbered parking space'). Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise collocations would help elevate your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical slips. For example, 'Although there is parking lot' is missing an article ('a'), and 'walk for long or in the rainy season to find a designated place' is slightly awkward in its construction. There are also some punctuation issues, such as the space before the period in 'evening .'. To improve, focus on article usage and ensure your complex sentences are grammatically sound.
