Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir,

I am writing this letter to complaint about parking amenities at my residential place. I am facing a plethora of problems related to parking even though I had a numerous discussions with the administrators of building.

At the time of renting this place, building authority allocated me one parking spot in a parking area in the back side of building. These days, there are no security at the unit because of that I am suffering issues. Everyone are not following the rules and regulations of the premises. My parking is always utilized by other residents.

There main reason why it wreaks multifarious problems in my ongoing life is that my work is completed at midnight and when I return home the whole parking area is full with vehicles even though I do not receive opportunity to park my car at my allocated location.

I would appreciate it, If you invest your time to tackle this matter as early as possible because it is generating enormous problems and you need to ameliorate security system especially for parking facilities.

I look forward to receiving your prompt response.

Yours faithfully,

Piyush.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: describing the situation, explaining the impact, and suggesting a solution. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a landlord. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive. For instance, you mention the parking issue multiple times without adding new information. To reach a higher band, ensure that each paragraph contributes a distinct point to the narrative. The purpose of the letter is clear from the beginning, and the reader understands the nature of your complaint and your expectations for a resolution.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter follows a logical structure with clear paragraphing. You use some cohesive devices such as 'At the time of', 'There main reason', and 'I look forward to'. However, there are some issues with the flow and mechanical use of linking words. For example, 'There main reason' is a grammatical error that disrupts the cohesion of the sentence. Additionally, some transitions between sentences feel slightly abrupt. Improving the variety of your cohesive devices and ensuring they are used accurately would help the flow of your writing appear more natural and professional.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an attempt to use a wider range of vocabulary, such as 'plethora', 'multifarious', and 'ameliorate'. While these words show ambition, they are sometimes used incorrectly or in contexts that feel slightly unnatural. For example, 'multifarious problems in my ongoing life' is an awkward collocation. Furthermore, there are errors in word choice, such as 'complaint' (should be 'complain') and 'residential place' (should be 'residence'). To improve, focus on using vocabulary that you are confident fits the context naturally rather than using complex words that may lead to inaccuracies.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

There are several grammatical errors throughout the letter that affect clarity. You have issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'Everyone are not following' (should be 'Everyone is not following') and 'there are no security' (should be 'there is no security'). Additionally, there are errors with articles and prepositions, such as 'administrators of building' (should be 'the building') and 'in a parking area in the back side of building'. While you attempt some complex sentence structures, the frequency of these basic errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and article usage.
