Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mr. Smith,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing this letter to bring your attention towards lack of parking spots are available in our apartment building.
I often noticed that there are number of cars of visitors in residents parking. Therefore, residents are facing issue to find parking for their cars.
Actually, this issue not only bothering me but also my neighbours are suffering from same problem as they discussed with me yesterday. Although I too tired when I come back from my work, I need to spend around 30 minutes in parking area to find parkind lot for my car.
I would like to discuss some suggestions to tackle with this issue. Either you should build new parking area for visitors or provide parking permits to building residents so that they should dispay permit on their car's front mirrior . Thus, visitors cannot use resident's parking.
I hope you would like my advice and take action soon.
Yours sincerely,
Harjinder kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You described the parking situation, explained the negative impact on your daily routine, and provided two clear, actionable suggestions for the landlord. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a landlord. To improve, ensure that you fully develop your ideas; for example, you could briefly mention how the lack of parking affects your safety or stress levels to add more weight to your argument. Overall, the response is clear and fulfills the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a logical progression, moving from the introduction of the problem to the impact and finally to the proposed solutions. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Therefore', 'Although', and 'Thus' to connect your ideas. However, the paragraphing is a bit sparse; the letter would benefit from clearer separation between the problem description and the proposed solutions. Additionally, some transitions feel slightly mechanical. Improving the flow between sentences by using a wider variety of linking words would help the text read more naturally.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. Phrases like 'tackle with this issue' and 'bring your attention towards' are understandable but slightly unnatural in a formal context. There are some minor errors, such as 'parkind' (spelling) and 'front mirrior' (spelling/collocation). To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise collocations, such as 'designated parking spaces' or 'implement a permit system'. While your vocabulary is sufficient for the task, it lacks the flexibility and precision required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'lack of parking spots are available' (should be 'the lack of parking spots'), 'I too tired' (missing verb 'am'), and 'my neighbours are suffering from same problem' (missing article 'the'). These errors do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage will significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
