Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Landlord,
I am writing about this latter to inform your a problem with the parking area of our apartment our building.
recently, I have been facing difficulty finding an empty parking space when I return home from work. there are few parking space are available and sometimes other residents park their vehicles in the wrong places. As a result, I have to spend a lot of time looking for a suitable space. it is especially difficult in the evening when most residents come back from work.
this situation bothers me because I am usually tired after a long day work. So sometimes I have to park my car far away from the building which is inconvenient and makes me feel unsafe at night.
I would like to suggest that you give each apartment a fixed parking space. You could also put numbers on the parking spaces and ask residents to park only in their assigned areas.
I hope you will consider my suggestion and solve this problem soon. thank
Yours sincerely,
Kavita

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly describe the parking situation, explain the negative impact on your daily routine, and provide a practical solution involving assigned parking spaces. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a landlord. To reach a higher band, ensure that all parts are developed with slightly more detail; for instance, you could elaborate on the specific times the parking lot is most congested or provide a more detailed justification for why assigned parking would be the most effective solution for the building management.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized, with each paragraph focusing on a specific aspect of the task. The progression of ideas is clear, moving from the problem to the impact and finally to the proposed solution. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'As a result' and 'So', which help link your ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat limited and occasionally repetitive. To improve, try to incorporate a wider variety of linking words and phrases to improve the flow between sentences and paragraphs, ensuring that the transition between your explanation of the problem and your suggested solution is smoother.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. Phrases like 'facing difficulty', 'inconvenient', and 'assigned areas' are used correctly. However, there are some minor errors in word choice and phrasing, such as 'about this latter to inform your a problem' and 'long day work' (missing 'of'). The vocabulary is functional but lacks the variety and precision required for higher bands. To improve, focus on using more sophisticated collocations and ensuring that your word forms are accurate throughout the text.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('there are few parking space are available') and missing articles or prepositions ('inform your a problem', 'long day work'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some sentences starting with lowercase letters. To achieve a higher score, you need to focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and ensuring that your sentence structures are consistently error-free, particularly regarding verb agreement and article usage.
