Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir/Madam

I am writing to express my concern regarding ongoing shortage of parking in our building.

It has been happening from last few weeks. When i come back from the work and I am often exhausted after a long day at work and i am not able to find available place at parking.

I have to park my vehicle at street parking it is quite far from our building it is not convenient for me which frustrate me a lot. Sometimes i have to bring groceries from my vehicle and walk for long which waste my precious time and, also difficult especially in bad weather. Furthermore, i am also concern about my car safety when i park far away.

I would suggest that you can introducing system where each apartment allocated one designated parking or you can ask to the residents to register and introducing parking permits which could be appericiated also, convenient for everyone.

Thank you for your understanding towards addressing this problem. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Best regards,

Kiran

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You described the situation clearly, explained the negative impact on your daily routine, and provided practical suggestions for the landlord. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are slightly more developed; for instance, you could elaborate on how the lack of parking specifically affects your stress levels or safety concerns. Overall, the response is well-focused and fulfills the requirements of the task effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized, with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore' and 'When', which help the flow of ideas. However, the paragraphing is a bit clumped; separating the problem description from the proposed solutions would improve the visual structure. Additionally, some transitions are slightly mechanical. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that each paragraph focuses on a single, distinct aspect of your argument to enhance the overall progression of the letter.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'exhausted', 'convenient', and 'designated'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'ongoing shortage of parking' (should be 'an ongoing shortage') and 'introducing system' (should be 'introduce a system'). There are also minor spelling errors like 'appericiated'. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensure you are using the correct word forms (e.g., 'allocate' vs 'allocated'). Expanding your vocabulary to include more sophisticated synonyms will help you reach a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. For example, 'It has been happening from last few weeks' should be 'for the last few weeks', and 'I am also concern' should be 'I am also concerned'. There are also issues with article usage ('at street parking' should be 'on the street') and subject-verb agreement. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on proofreading for basic tense consistency and preposition usage.
