Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Landlord,
I am writing this letter regarding the parking space issue that I am facing in regular basis.
The situation is easy to understand, we have very few visitor parking space and sometimes their could be more visitors in. So when the visitor spots are filled up they tend to put there vehicle in tenants spot.
So after having a long hard day at work, I have to spend 1 hour finding the owner of the car to remove his car from my spot. It is very annoying for me to spend an hour for my own parking space.
I would strongly suggest to take permission from the city to let people park on the street for certain amount of time. so that no one will face this problem and waste their own time for such thing.
I hope you take action for my concern. Have a nice day.
Thank you.
Your faithful,
Surya Dulawat

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points: the situation is described, the impact is explained, and a solution is proposed. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. The explanation of why it bothers you is clear, but the proposed solution—asking the landlord to obtain city permission for street parking—is slightly unrealistic for a landlord to implement. To reach a higher band, you should provide more detailed or practical suggestions, such as installing signage or assigning specific parking permits to tenants. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter, and the purpose is clear throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use basic cohesive devices like 'So' and 'However' (implied), but the transitions between sentences can be a bit mechanical. For instance, the start of the second paragraph is slightly abrupt. The use of referencing is generally clear, though some sentences are quite short and choppy. To improve, try to use a wider variety of linking words and phrases to connect your ideas more fluidly, such as 'consequently,' 'furthermore,' or 'in addition to this.'
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to communicate your message clearly, such as 'regular basis,' 'tenants,' and 'strongly suggest.' However, there are some noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'put there vehicle' (should be 'park their vehicles') and 'take permission' (should be 'seek permission' or 'obtain permission'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and ensuring you use the correct form of words in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'in regular basis' (should be 'on a regular basis'), 'their could be' (should be 'there could be'), and 'remove his car' (should be 'remove their car' to maintain agreement). Additionally, punctuation is occasionally inconsistent, such as the missing comma after 'time' in the final paragraph. While these errors rarely impede the overall meaning, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and basic prepositional phrases.
