Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Owner,

I am writing this letter to inform you that I am living in this building from a long time. There is a small parking behind this apartment which is fully congested with inhabitants and kids everyday and I could not find a space for me.

whenever I come back from my office I want calm and peaceful environment which is away from city's hustle and bustle. So that I can feel relaxed.

However, there are numerous individual in this parking spot while the space is less. Therefore, this is not a relaxed space anymore for me even i could not find any desk for me to sit and relax myself. Even there are no plants and less greenery. Children do not have play things.

So I advised to the landlord to extend the area of parking which is important because lots of people are living in this building. Also needs to grow more plants as everybody want to take fresh air and relaxation in their life.

I hope you understand the situation and take actions to solve this problem.

Yours faithfully.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The letter addresses all three bullet points: describing the parking situation, explaining why it is a problem, and suggesting a solution. However, the development of ideas is somewhat inconsistent. While the parking issue is clear, the letter drifts into irrelevant complaints about the lack of 'desks' and 'plants' in the parking area, which are not directly related to the core issue of parking space availability. This indicates a slight misunderstanding of the task's focus. To improve, ensure all points remain strictly relevant to the prompt's core problem.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the logical flow between sentences is occasionally disjointed. For example, the transition from the parking issue to the desire for a 'calm environment' and then to the lack of 'desks' feels abrupt and lacks clear cohesive links. While the use of basic cohesive devices like 'However' and 'Therefore' is present, the overall progression of ideas is somewhat mechanical and occasionally confusing due to the inclusion of irrelevant details.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. There are some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'fully congested with inhabitants' (which sounds unnatural) and 'there are no plants and less greenery' (which is repetitive). The phrase 'desk for me to sit' is also inappropriate in the context of a parking lot. To improve, focus on using more natural collocations and avoiding repetitive or imprecise vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The letter contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'I am living in this building from a long time' (should be 'have been living... for a long time'), 'there are numerous individual' (should be 'individuals'), and 'I advised to the landlord' (should be 'I would advise' or 'I suggest'). These errors are noticeable and occasionally distract the reader, though they do not completely impede communication. A greater focus on verb tenses and pluralization is needed.
