Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Mrs. Kavita,
I hope you are doing well. Actually I am writing this letter to express a predicament that is bothering me from last few days and I am unable to find any relevant solution. The issue is regarding parking space.
As you know I recently bought a brand new car and when I usually come back from work, I never find a parking spot on driveway for my car as a result I always have to find street parking, which is not safest option especially for new car. Moreover, the tenants who are living upstairs in the same building park their car on my spot which is not acceptable because now I have my own car.
I kindly request you to resolve this issue as soon as possible as I am paying monthly rent for my apartment including parking, Otherwise I have to find other place to live. This problem is giving me a lot of stress and I always my 20-30 minutes to find parking.
I hope you will find a better solution for this issue. Thank you for your time.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points: the situation is described, the impact is explained, and a request for a solution is made. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a landlord. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, while you mention that the lack of parking is stressful, you could have elaborated more on the specific impact on your daily routine or the safety concerns regarding street parking to fully develop the response. The position is clear throughout, and the purpose of the letter is immediately evident to the reader.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. Paragraphing is used to separate the situation from the request. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover' and 'as a result', which help the flow of ideas. However, some transitions are a bit mechanical, and the connection between sentences could be smoother. For instance, the transition between the parking issue and the threat to move out is quite abrupt. Overall, the message is easy to follow, and the progression of ideas is logical.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'predicament', 'tenants', and 'resolve'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'not safest option' (should be 'not the safest option') and 'I always my 20-30 minutes' (missing a verb like 'spend'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the variety and precision required for a higher band. Attempting to use more sophisticated collocations or idiomatic expressions related to housing or complaints would improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'bothering me from last few days' (should be 'for the last few days'), 'on driveway' (should be 'in the driveway'), and 'I always my 20-30 minutes' (missing the verb 'spend'). Additionally, there are some punctuation and article errors throughout the text. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles would significantly enhance the accuracy of your writing.
