Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mr. Smith,
I am writing to express the inconvenience which I suffered due lack of parking space when I come back from work often cannot find the empty space to park my car because all space was occupied by guests of yours or our neighbours.
I always get troubled from this, as I already tried from my workplace and want to take rest at home, but I wait for others to leave the space and I park my car in that parking lot, which is too much annoying specially at evening. Sometimes, due to this, I park my car on the street which is not safe.
I would like to request you that please vacant the space for my car in parking lot and told guests to park their cars on the street or in a public parking near by. I would appreciate if you could considered my matter as urgent.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours sincerely,
Sukhmeen

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points: describing the situation, explaining the impact, and suggesting a solution. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a landlord. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the suggestion to 'vacant the space' is a bit vague and could be more specific, such as proposing assigned parking spots or a permit system. While the purpose of the letter is clear, the expression of ideas is occasionally hindered by grammatical inaccuracies, which makes some parts of the message slightly less professional than intended.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a logical structure with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You have used basic cohesive devices such as 'sometimes' and 'I would like to', which help the flow. However, the transition between ideas is sometimes mechanical, and the paragraphing could be improved to better separate the problem from the proposed solution. Some sentences are run-on, such as the first paragraph, which makes it harder for the reader to follow the progression of your argument. Using more varied linking words would help improve the overall flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to communicate your message effectively. You use relevant terms like 'inconvenience', 'occupied', and 'urgent'. However, there are some errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'vacant the space' (should be 'reserve' or 'allocate') and 'too much annoying' (should be 'very annoying'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To reach a higher band, focus on using more natural collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'the inconvenience which I suffered due lack of' (missing 'to'), 'all space was occupied' (should be 'all spaces were'), and 'I would appreciate if you could considered' (should be 'consider'). These errors are noticeable and occasionally distract the reader, though they do not prevent the meaning from being understood. You need to focus on subject-verb agreement, verb tense consistency, and the correct use of prepositions to improve your accuracy.
