Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Smith,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing a letter to complain about parking problem which I am facing on daily basis.
From last one month, whenever i came back from my work I did not get space to park my car in the parking lot. I hope you can understand my situation and help me to get through with this issue.
It bother me because visitors from my next door apartment park their vehicles on my spot. It is happening from last month. They always have guest coming to there place.
I am requesting you to solve this issue as soon as possible because it is inconvenient for me to park my car on the road everyday. You can provide extra parking lot to them for their visitors so that they will not use my parking space. I would appreciate your immediate attention to this request.
Thank you
Your sincerely,
Lovepreet Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the task: describing the situation, explaining the impact, and suggesting a solution. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a landlord. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, while you mention that visitors park in your spot, you could have elaborated more on the frequency or the specific impact on your daily routine to make the letter more persuasive. The purpose of the letter is clear throughout, and the response effectively communicates the problem to the reader.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use basic cohesive devices like 'because' and 'so that' to connect ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical, and the use of linking words could be more varied to improve the overall progression. For instance, the transition between the description of the problem and the explanation of why it bothers you could be smoother. Paragraphing is present and appropriate for a letter format.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You use a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly, such as 'inconvenient', 'immediate attention', and 'requesting'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'parking problem which I am facing on daily basis' (should be 'a daily basis') and 'get through with this issue' (which is slightly unnatural in this context). While the vocabulary is adequate for the task, it lacks the range of less common or more precise lexical items that would be required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'From last one month' (should be 'For the last month'), 'whenever i came back' (should be 'whenever I come back'), and 'guest coming to there place' (should be 'their place'). These errors are frequent enough to be noticeable, though they do not impede the overall meaning of your letter. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct use of prepositions, and consistent verb tense usage.
