Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear landlord,
I am writing this letter to inform you that I am facing problem with the parking space. Whenever, I came back from my work I usually did not find the vacant space for my vehicle.
I am really very disappointed to share the concern of parking space. When I signed the lease agreement there was a special point that I get one parking spot. But from last few months the situation is very annoying. whenever, I have to use my assigned parking spot, someone already has been parked there.
In continuity I am facing this issue which is now become a matter to discuss with you. I did not get the space to park my own car and I need permanent space for this.
As an evidence for your reference, I attached the pictures of those vehicles which are parked at my assigned space. I hope you understand my pain and resolve this matter as soon as possible.
Yours sincerely,
Ritika

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter covers all three bullet points: describing the parking situation, explaining why it is problematic, and suggesting a solution. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a landlord. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive; for example, the frustration regarding the parking space is mentioned in multiple paragraphs without adding new depth. To improve, ensure each paragraph serves a distinct purpose in moving the narrative forward. While the task is addressed, the ideas could be more clearly articulated to show the impact of the problem on your daily life.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally awkward. For instance, the phrase 'In continuity' is used incorrectly to start a paragraph, and the transition between the problem description and the evidence provided is abrupt. Using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring they are used in the correct context would improve the flow. Paragraphing is present, but the internal cohesion within the paragraphs could be strengthened to create a more natural progression of ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the message to be understood clearly. There are some instances of slightly unnatural phrasing, such as 'share the concern of parking space' and 'someone already has been parked there'. While the range is sufficient to communicate the situation, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. To improve, focus on using more natural collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing. The word choice is functional but does not demonstrate a wide range of less common lexical items.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The letter contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include tense inconsistencies, such as 'Whenever, I came back' (should be 'come back') and 'someone already has been parked' (should be 'is already parked'). Additionally, there are punctuation errors, such as the unnecessary comma after 'Whenever'. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the core message, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall accuracy. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage will significantly improve your score.
