Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Landlord,

I hope you are doing-well, I really enjoyed living to this house it is perfect for my family and I but recently I'm facing parking related issue, I work at the restaurant as a manager so I come home late night by that time all parking spots are getting full because some tenants have more the one car makes me frustrated.

So, I request you solve this problem. You could write an email to the property management to allot parking slots as per the apartment or else you can provide me an extra parking spot near my house where I can park my car without any problem because when we did a tenant agreement we mentioned that you have to provide me a space for my car.

I hope you will understand my problem and try to solve it as soon as possible. I will look forward for your response.

Your tenant,

Ayush

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The letter addresses all three bullet points: the situation is described, the impact is explained, and a solution is proposed. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a landlord. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, the explanation of why it bothers you is limited to 'makes me frustrated,' and the suggestion could be more detailed. While the task requirements are met, the response lacks the depth and sophistication required for a higher band score. The content is relevant, but the expression of ideas remains at a functional level.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organized into three distinct paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite limited and sometimes mechanical. Phrases like 'So, I request you' and 'or else you can' feel a bit abrupt. The logical progression between sentences is present but could be smoother. There is a reliance on simple conjunctions, and the flow between the problem and the proposed solution could be improved with more varied linking words to better connect the ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You use basic terms like 'parking related issue' and 'solve this problem.' There are some minor errors in word choice, such as 'living to this house' instead of 'living in this house' and 'more the one car' instead of 'more than one car.' To improve, you should aim for more precise collocations and a wider range of vocabulary related to housing and formal complaints. The current range is sufficient to communicate your message clearly but does not demonstrate flexibility.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The letter contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include punctuation issues (comma splices like 'I hope you are doing-well, I really enjoyed...'), missing articles ('at the restaurant' vs 'at a restaurant'), and incorrect preposition usage ('living to this house'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the message, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall accuracy. You should focus on sentence boundaries and subject-verb agreement to improve your control over complex structures.
