Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Jorge,

Hope you are doing well. It's been a month since you visited this place and I'm worried about the current parking situation. The parking space is never empty when I return back to home.

I start my work at 7am and return back at 6pm. Surprisingly, there's no parking available even after having a booked spot in our lease. I believe someone is parking at the wrong place not knowing that 10th spot is only for 101 tenant.

Furthermore, when I try searching another spot in rush hours; unfortunately, left with none. Paid parking spots too closes around 5pm which makes it more difficult to find a spot indoors.

Therefore, I would suggest you to liaise with management and check who's parking at wrong spot. We can also come to an agreement of me buying a spot in opposite building and cut the rent accordingly.

Please let me know the outcome by end of this week. Appreciate all the help!

Have a wonderful day ahead.

Your sincerely,

Neha

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points: the situation is described, the impact is explained, and a solution is proposed. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a landlord, and the purpose is clear from the outset. The ideas are well-developed, particularly the suggestion regarding the opposite building. To reach a higher band, you could provide slightly more detail about the specific impact on your daily routine, such as the stress caused by searching for parking after a long shift, to further extend the ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the problem from the proposed solution. You use some cohesive devices like 'Furthermore' and 'Therefore' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences could be improved; for instance, the transition between the description of the problem and the impact is slightly abrupt. Using a wider variety of linking words or more sophisticated referencing would help the text feel more cohesive and less mechanical.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'liaise', 'agreement', and 'outcome' correctly. There are some minor issues with collocation and word choice, such as 'return back to home' (redundant) and 'searching another spot' (should be 'searching for'). Additionally, 'paid parking spots too closes' contains a grammatical error in word form. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your message clearly, incorporating more precise collocations related to parking or property management would elevate the lexical quality.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'return back to home' (the word 'back' is redundant with 'return'), 'parking at wrong spot' (missing articles), and 'Your sincerely' (incorrect sign-off; should be 'Yours sincerely'). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, focus on article usage (e.g., 'the wrong spot') and ensure consistent subject-verb agreement. Expanding your range of complex structures would also be beneficial.
