Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Mark,

I hope you are doing well and in radiant health. I am writing this letter to you regarding the parking area of our building. As we all this is a three story building of 10 people and everyone has their own vehicle. Additionally we have plenty of parking space for all of us however I still have some issues to find a space for my two wheeler. I want to let you know there is a institute near by our building and their students mostly occupy our parking slots without anyone's permission.

As you know, I am a student and I have to come back to home at afternoon. Whenever I back i usually never get space for my bike and it pissed off me so much. As a mentioned you earlier, you could be solved this problem with a warning to institute's students.

I hope you will not neglect this situation and will find some appropriate solution.

With regards,

Gursimran.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed all three bullet points required by the task: describing the situation, explaining the impact, and suggesting a solution. Your position is clear throughout the letter. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, while you mention the students from a nearby institute, you could have provided more detail about how this affects your daily routine or the specific nature of the parking shortage. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is expanded with more descriptive language or specific examples to fully satisfy the requirements of the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter follows a logical progression, moving from the introduction to the problem, the impact, and finally the suggested solution. Paragraphing is present, though the indentation is inconsistent and the spacing between paragraphs is somewhat erratic. You use some cohesive devices like 'Additionally' and 'Whenever', but the flow between sentences can feel a bit mechanical. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that your paragraph structure is clearly defined and consistent throughout the document.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your message clearly. You use some appropriate phrases like 'radiant health' and 'appropriate solution'. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing or incorrect word choices, such as 'pissed off me' (which is too informal and grammatically incorrect) and 'as a mentioned you earlier'. To improve, try to incorporate more precise vocabulary related to the context of housing and parking, and pay closer attention to standard collocations to ensure your writing sounds natural and professional.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'As we all this is a three story building', 'I still have some issues to find a space', and 'Whenever I back i usually never get space'. There are also issues with verb tense consistency and article usage. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to lower the score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct preposition usage will help improve your accuracy significantly.
