Student answer (Band 4.5)
Dear Khushu,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter in order to get your assistance in finding a PSW job.
Firstly, I resigned from my tim Hortons supervisor job last week as my wage rate was not sufficient for this designation. Apart from this I decided to look for a job in which I completed my course last year and utilise my knowledge to build better future ahead.
Moreover, I am looking for a PSW job in Brampton as the wage rate starts from $23 which is far more than my previous job and there is scope of potential of better future from this job. So, I need your help to find me a perfect job because you are in touch with agencies who are dealing with this kind of jobs.
I would like to hear from you as soon as possible.I am waiting for your reply.
Thanks
Your sincerely

| Criterion | Band |

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 3.0
The response fails to address the task requirements as it does not describe the parking situation, the reasons it bothers the writer, or provide a solution. Instead, it diverts to a job request to the landlord. This significant deviation from the prompt results in a poor task achievement score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
Despite being coherent in a narrative format, the letter lacks cohesion regarding the main topic. Sentences like, "I hope you are doing well," and the closing also do not connect to the parking issue. The letter does not follow a logical sequence related to the assigned task, leading to a lower score for coherence and cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is appropriate for general communication but lacks variety and precision. Phrases like "looking for a job" are common and could be replaced with more specific terminology. The candidate repetitively uses basic expressions without employing a broader range of vocabulary, which limits clarity and engagement.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
There are multiple grammatical mistakes, including capitalization errors ("tim Hortons" should be "Tim Hortons"), punctuation issues (missing spaces), and awkward phrasing (e.g., "utilise my knowledge to build better future ahead" lacks clarity). The grammatical range displayed is limited, and the errors somewhat disrupt the communication flow.
Overall feedback
Your letter does not respond to the writing task as required. Focus on structuring your response to match the prompt — describe your parking concerns and suggest solutions. Work on developing your vocabulary range and practicing specific expressions related to common topics in task one. In addition, pay attention to grammar and punctuation, as these can enhance the clarity of your writing. Aim to connect your ideas more fluidly to improve coherence.
