Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear sir/ madam

I am writing this letter regarding an issue I am facing with your rental property. It has been a while since when I moved here, whenever I come back from my work there is no parking at all for me to park my vehicle.

This issue is getting worse day by day and really frustrating for me . Moreover, I have to park my car road side . From there I have to walk for at least 20 minutes to reach the apartment. This is too tiring for me to do so everyday after work.

I would really appreciate it if you could look into this issue as soon as possible. It would be better If you provide me some additional parking space . So that in future I dont have any stress for the parking and I can really enjoy living here other wise I have to look a new apartment to live .

Thankyou so much

Your sincerely

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The letter covers all three bullet points: the situation is described, the impact is explained, and a suggestion is provided. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a landlord. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, the suggestion to provide 'additional parking space' is a bit vague, and the threat to move out at the end is slightly abrupt. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your ideas with more detail, such as suggesting a permit system or assigned spots, which would make the letter more persuasive and fully developed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some cohesive devices like 'Moreover' and 'Therefore' (implied), but the transitions between sentences can feel a bit mechanical. The flow is generally good, but the connection between the problem and the proposed solution could be smoother. The use of paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter, and the overall structure is easy to follow, though the ending feels a bit rushed.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. Phrases like 'rental property' and 'look into this issue' are appropriate. However, there is some repetition and a lack of more sophisticated or precise vocabulary. For example, 'no parking at all' could be expressed as 'a chronic shortage of parking spaces'. There are also minor errors, such as 'road side' (should be 'on the roadside') and 'look a new apartment' (should be 'look for a new apartment'). Expanding your range of collocations would improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. For example, 'It has been a while since when I moved here' is awkward; 'since I moved here' would be better. You also have issues with articles and prepositions, such as 'park my car road side' and 'in future I dont have any stress'. While these errors do not prevent communication, they occur frequently enough to limit your score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct preposition usage will help.
