Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mr. Sharma,
Subject: Regarding an empthy parking space.
My name is kiran living in your building at 11th floor. I am facing a difficulty from last one week which is regarding parking my vehicle. whenever I come home there is no space to park my car in our parking lot.
However, It bothers me alot because the visitors never park their vehicles in the visitor parking. As a result of this, Residents are facing these problems. Yesterday, I came from work and noticed that there are three cars in our parking lot with visitor pass on it and I did not find a space for my vehicle to park it.
As a result of it, I have a suggestion for you, You can hire a security guard who can patrol in our parking lot. with the help of this, you can issue them a fine or ticket If they park their vehicles in residents parking.
I look forward to hear from you regarding this matter.
your sincerely,
kiran.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: describing the situation, explaining the impact, and suggesting a solution. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a landlord. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, while you mention the security guard as a solution, you could have expanded on how this would specifically improve the situation for residents. The letter is clear and the purpose is immediately evident, meeting the requirements for a Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a logical progression, moving from the problem to the impact and finally to the proposed solution. Paragraphing is used, though the structure is a bit fragmented. You use some cohesive devices like 'However' and 'As a result of this', but the flow between sentences can feel a bit mechanical. The referencing is generally clear, though the transition between the situation and the impact could be smoother. Overall, the message is easy to follow, which aligns with Band 6.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your message clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'parking lot', 'residents', and 'patrol'. However, there are some spelling errors ('empthy', 'alot') and minor word choice issues ('facing a difficulty from last one week'). To reach a higher band, you should aim for more precise collocations and ensure accurate spelling. The range is sufficient to convey your meaning, but it lacks the flexibility and sophistication required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'I am facing a difficulty from last one week' (should be 'for the last week') and 'I look forward to hear' (should be 'to hearing'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with capitalization after periods. While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede the reader's understanding of your message. You have control over basic structures, but more consistent accuracy is needed for a higher score.
