Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Owner,

I am writing to express my concern regarding the parking facilities at my apartment, which have become increasingly inconvenient, particularly when I return home in the evening.

The parking space at our buiding location are quite limited, which becomes occupied by the tenants who reach home early in the afternoon or by the visitors. Unfortunately, I arrive at home in the evening have to park my vehicles far away from the apartment as there was not enough parking avaibility, which left me disppointed.

It bothers me every evening because I am extra tired when reach home after a full day working, but I have to walk for long distance after parked my car to reach my apartment. I am facing this issue from long time and I thought it needs to be addressed.

I would suggest you to allocate the parking stall to all tenants who has a vehicles. Moreover, parking for outsiders need to be prohibited with the reserved tag to the stall. If possible extend the car parking area with visitor parking on the other side so that tenats has their own reserved stall.

I hope you will take this problem into immediate consideration. Looking forward to your prompt response with possible solution

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You described the parking situation clearly, explained the negative impact on your daily life, and provided actionable suggestions for the landlord. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter, and the purpose is clear from the beginning. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are slightly more developed; for instance, you could elaborate on how the lack of parking specifically affects your schedule or stress levels. Overall, the response is well-focused and meets the requirements of the task effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some cohesive devices like 'Moreover' and 'If possible' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by minor grammatical errors that affect the smoothness of the sentences. To improve, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that your referencing (e.g., 'this issue') clearly points back to the previously mentioned problem to enhance the overall cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to communicate your message clearly. Phrases like 'increasingly inconvenient' and 'immediate consideration' are well-chosen for a formal letter. However, there are some spelling errors ('buiding', 'avaibility', 'disppointed', 'tenats') and minor collocation issues, such as 'reach home' instead of 'arrive home'. While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on accurate spelling and more precise collocations will help you achieve a higher score in this criterion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb tenses and subject-verb agreement, such as 'parking space... are' instead of 'is', and 'tenants who has a vehicles' instead of 'tenants who have vehicles'. Additionally, there are issues with sentence construction, such as 'after parked my car' instead of 'after parking my car'. While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning. Increasing your control over basic grammatical structures will significantly improve your score.
