Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Owner,

I am writing to express my concern regarding the parking facilities at my apartment, which have become increasingly inconvenient, particularly when I return home in the evening.

The parking space at our building location is quite limited, which are occupied by the tenants who reach home early in the afternoon or by the visitors. Unfortunately, I arrive at home in the evening and I have to park my vehicle far away from the apartment as there was not enough parking avaibility, which left me disppointed.

It bothers me every evening because I am extra tired when reach home after a whole working day, but I have to walk for a long distance after parked my car to reach my apartment. I am facing this issue from long time and I thought it needs to be addressed.

I would suggest you to allocate the parking stall to all tenants who has a vehicle. Moreover, parking for outsiders need to be prohibited with the reserved tag to the stall. If possible extend the car parking area with visitor parking on the other side so that tenats has their own reserved stall.

I hope you will take this problem into immediate consideration. Looking forward to your prompt response with possible solution.

Kind Regards,

Prarthana.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly described the parking situation, explained the personal impact of the inconvenience, and provided actionable suggestions for the landlord. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a landlord. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, ensuring the reader understands the nature of the problem and the desired outcome. To reach a higher band, ensure that all parts of the prompt are addressed with equal depth; for instance, the explanation of why it bothers you could be slightly more detailed regarding the specific safety or stress concerns involved.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use paragraphing effectively to separate the problem, the impact, and the proposed solutions. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover' and 'If possible' are used to link ideas. However, there are some minor issues with referencing and flow, such as the transition between the second and third paragraphs. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer back to their antecedents would enhance the overall cohesion of the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'inconvenient', 'prohibited', and 'immediate consideration'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'parking avaibility' (availability) and 'disppointed' (disappointed). Additionally, 'parking stall' is used correctly, but some phrasing feels slightly repetitive. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations related to property management and parking, and ensure careful proofreading to avoid spelling errors that distract the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement ('which are occupied', 'tenants has') and tense consistency ('as there was not enough', 'after parked my car'). Some sentences are slightly awkward, such as 'I am facing this issue from long time'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on verb tense consistency and correct preposition usage will significantly improve your accuracy.
