Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mr. Smith,
I am writing because I am disappointed with the parking situation in our building, as I often cannot find space to park my car after I return late from work.
To begin with, I would like to explain that I had reserved parking space for two vehicles in our apartment. Although my husband can always park in the lot because he comes earlier from his work but when I reach home I always had severe problem regarding parking issue.
Furthermore, daily I waste around 25 minutes to find parking space on the road and it creates prolamatic situation for me because I always pay my parking fee on time and it creates difficulty for me to manage my schedule additionally, I always come tired from 12 hour long shift and it creates so much mess when I come at 8 pm after my work.
This is primarily because of unauthorized parking of vehicles in our parking lot . I want to bring your attention to this matter because it is raising concern of almost every person who is coming late after their work . However, if you extend the parkin space and ban unauthorized vehicles, this issue will be solved.
I would really appreciate if this matter would be solved promptly.
Yours Sincerely,
Amanat Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: describing the situation, explaining why it is bothersome, and suggesting a solution. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a landlord. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive, particularly regarding the frustration caused by the parking issue. To reach a higher band, ensure that each paragraph adds new information rather than restating the same point. For example, the explanation of why it bothers you could be more clearly linked to the terms of your lease or the safety of the area, rather than just the inconvenience of the time spent searching.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', and 'However' to link your ideas. However, some of these transitions feel slightly mechanical or are used in contexts where they do not flow naturally. For instance, the transition 'However' in the fourth paragraph is used incorrectly, as the following sentence is not a contrast to the previous one. Additionally, the paragraphing is functional, but the flow between sentences within the paragraphs could be smoother to improve the overall readability of the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'unauthorized', 'promptly', and 'reserved'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choices and minor errors, such as 'prolamatic' (likely a misspelling of problematic), 'creates so much mess' (which is informal and imprecise in this context), and 'parking issue' used repeatedly. To improve, try to use more precise collocations related to property management and parking. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the flexibility and precision required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'my husband can always park in the lot because he comes earlier from his work but when I reach home I always had severe problem' (tense inconsistency and missing articles) and 'it is raising concern of almost every person who is coming late' (awkward phrasing). There are also issues with article usage and subject-verb agreement. While these errors do not prevent the message from being understood, they occur frequently enough to limit your score in this criterion.
