You live in a small apartment building with a parking lot in back, and you often cannot find an empty parking space when you get home from work.
Write a letter to your landlord. In your letter
• describe the situation.
• explain why it bothers you.
• suggest something the landlord could do to solve the problem. You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I am writing to complain about the difficulties I do experience every day I want to park my car in the parking garage provided for us in your building.
In all honesty, the parking garage is too small which makes it difficult for me and my other neighbor to use. Whenever I arrived from the office, there would be no vacant space for me to park my car. Most of the time, I do park my car outside the gate which hinders some of my co-tenants to go out.
The reason why this bothers me so much is because i do not want my car to be vandalized. This is because we heard that car parked on the street is always being targeted by thieves from a nearby neighborhood.
However, I would like to suggest to you to demolish the uncompleted building in the compound to widening the parking space in order to affect future conflict among us.
Thanks, as I look forward to your prompt action.
Yours faithfully,
Sarah.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: describing the parking situation, explaining why it is a problem, and suggesting a solution. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a landlord. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the suggestion to 'demolish the uncompleted building' is a bit abrupt and lacks nuance. To improve, you could expand on how this solution would benefit all tenants or mention potential costs or logistics to make the suggestion sound more realistic and persuasive. Overall, the purpose of the letter is clear and the requirements are met.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter follows a logical structure, with each paragraph focusing on a specific part of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'In all honesty' and 'However', to link your ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical. For example, the transition between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother. Additionally, the use of 'This is because' at the start of two consecutive sentences creates a repetitive structure. Using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that your paragraphs are clearly separated will help improve the overall flow and readability of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'vandalized', 'hinders', and 'co-tenants' correctly. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'affect future conflict' (which should be 'avoid' or 'prevent') and 'widening the parking space' (which should be 'widen'). While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your message clearly, you should aim to use more precise collocations to move into a higher band. Focusing on word forms and ensuring you use the correct verb or adjective in context will enhance your lexical precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. Examples include 'difficulties I do experience' (unnecessary 'do'), 'Whenever I arrived' (should be 'arrive' for a recurring event), and 'car parked on the street is' (should be 'cars parked... are'). Additionally, there are minor punctuation and capitalization issues, such as the lowercase 'i'. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage will significantly improve your accuracy.
