Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Landlord,
I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with the parking lot in back that i recently facing the issue on it.
To begin with, as we know that our apartment is very small and the parking are is behind the apartment. I am working at warehouse, most of the time I am working on night shift (4 to 11 pm). Whenever I came home there is no space to parking my car on the designated area.
Furthermore, last night night I parked my car on the pay parking area and I spend more than 100$ for overnight parking . I walked all the way to home from the parking area to home. This situation is very overburden to me. I recoganized that visiters are parking their vehicle on tenants area.
I would appreciate it if you could take action for this. I look forward to hear from you.
Yours sincerely,
Riya

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points: describing the situation, explaining the impact, and suggesting a solution. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a landlord. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, while you mention the financial burden of paying for parking, the suggestion for a solution is quite vague ('take action'). To improve, you should provide more specific suggestions, such as issuing parking permits to tenants or installing a gate. The content is relevant, but the overall development could be more detailed to fully satisfy the requirements of a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. You use some basic cohesive devices like 'To begin with' and 'Furthermore'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes interrupted by grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with the parking lot in back that i recently facing the issue on it.' Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing (e.g., 'this situation') is clear would help elevate the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your message clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'designated area', 'tenants', and 'overnight parking'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and minor errors, such as 'parking are' instead of 'parking area' and 'overburden' used incorrectly as an adjective. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing. Expanding your range of vocabulary to include more sophisticated synonyms for common words will also be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'I am working at warehouse' (missing article), 'Whenever I came home there is no space to parking' (incorrect verb form), and 'I look forward to hear from you' (should be 'hearing'). These errors are noticeable and occasionally distract the reader, though they do not prevent the message from being understood. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct preposition usage, and consistent verb tense control.
