Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear mr. Joshi

I am writing this to express my concern about lake of availability of parking space in our apartments parking lot.

From the past few week I have been facing a lot of difficulties to park my car. When I come back from my work in the evening I noticed whole parking was packed with the vehicles. The members of our apartment park their more then two vehicles, some members allows their relative to park their vehicles also, while as per the rules every memmer can park only two of their vehicles and the visitors' or the relatives' vehicles are not allowed to park.

I come bake home after very busy day and then I am required to find parking space which I feel extremely exhausting and irritating. Moreover I am required to park my car on the street or sometimes far from my home in public parking consequently It increase my concern towards safety of my car.

I would like to suggest that each apartment be assigned designated parking space. Moreover, renew the parking related rules and make it more strict, strictly prohibit the relative's vehicles to parks. This would help prevent non-residents from covering the limited parking space.

I hope you will consider this metter and take appropriate exction as soon as possihle. Thank you for your time and attention.

Your faithfully

Kajal.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points of the task. You clearly described the parking situation, explained the negative impact on your daily routine, and provided a logical suggestion for the landlord. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a landlord. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are fully developed; for instance, you could have briefly elaborated on how the lack of parking specifically affects your safety concerns. However, the response is well-focused and meets all requirements of the prompt effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a distinct purpose. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'consequently', and 'This would help', which assist in the flow of ideas. However, there are some minor issues with referencing and mechanical flow, such as the transition between the problem description and the impact. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the overall progression of the letter is easy to follow, making the communication clear and effective throughout the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'availability', 'designated', and 'prohibit'. However, there are several spelling errors, such as 'lake' instead of 'lack', 'memmer' instead of 'member', 'metter' instead of 'matter', and 'exction' instead of 'action'. These errors are noticeable but do not impede the overall meaning of your letter. To improve, focus on proofreading for common spelling mistakes and try to incorporate more precise collocations to enhance the sophistication of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'From the past few week' (should be 'weeks'), 'more then' (should be 'than'), and 'I come bake home' (should be 'back'). Additionally, there are issues with subject-verb agreement and article usage, such as 'the relative's vehicles'. While these errors do not prevent understanding, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall accuracy of the text. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for verb tenses will help improve your score.
