Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing this letter to inform you about the incidence that happens in regular basis. I have rented your appartment because of the parking was available in the facilities of contract. However, Every time I came home from a stress full day of work I always had to find the parking space to park my vehicle.

In the allotted space someone tenants park their vehicle. I frequently requested them to free my parking space but they do not listen to my complaint. So, I regularly have to park my car at outside of the appartment without any safety. Furthermore, they try to harm my car if I park in my parking.

As a landlord, you have a right to complaint this matter to the secretary of these residence. I am sure secretary will resolve this issue.

Kindly find the solution of my problem and resolve my issue as soon as possible.

Yours sincerely,

Niyati

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed all three bullet points: describing the situation, explaining the impact, and suggesting a solution. However, the development of these points is somewhat limited. For example, the suggestion that the landlord should complain to the 'secretary' is a bit vague and lacks the professional tone expected in a formal letter. While the purpose of the letter is clear, the content could be more detailed to fully satisfy the requirements of a higher band. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal complaint, though some phrasing is slightly unnatural.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organised into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some basic cohesive devices like 'However', 'Furthermore', and 'So' to link your ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel abrupt. The referencing is generally clear, but the overall structure could benefit from more sophisticated linking words to improve the flow of the narrative. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, the body of the complaint, and the conclusion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your message clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'allotted space', 'facilities', and 'complaint'. However, there are several errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'incidence' instead of 'incident', 'appartment' (spelled incorrectly), and 'stress full' (should be 'stressful'). These errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring accurate spelling of common words.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you can communicate your ideas, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'the incidence that happens in regular basis' (should be 'on a regular basis'), 'parking was available in the facilities of contract' (awkward phrasing), and 'park my car at outside of the appartment' (incorrect preposition usage). Additionally, there are issues with article usage and verb tense consistency. These errors occur frequently, though they do not completely impede communication.
